Toni Kukoc got old - I mean, really old

May 1, 2008

Toni KukocFor somebody like me who grew up in the Jordan era, Toni Kukoc was the European part within this great Chicago Bulls team.

To be honest, I really lost track what Toni did after his great career with the Chicago Bulls. Of course I noticed that the Croatian forward played for the Milwaukee Bucks until the 05/06 season, but he never reached the status of that great three point shooter that he was with the Bulls. People easily forget, that after Jordan and Pippen, Kukoc was the third best scorer of the Bulls in their championship years.

As I just stopped by at euroleague.net, it made me smile to see an interview with Toni Kukoc on their site, but when I actually watched it, I was really surprised by Toni Kukoc’s look. To me he looks more like a surfer from Hawaii, who does not care about making money - well he probably does not have to worry about money. After checking out Kukoc’s wikipedia site, I was more surprised since, Toni will be celebrating his 40th birthday thisĀ  September - time goes fast …

We hope to get to talk to Toni during the Final Four for a few seconds and ask him what he actually is up to now.

The title of this posting is the biggest misnomer I’ve ever seen. One question - what the hell are you talking about? Tony doesn’t look old at all, definitely not “really old”. How is a guy pushing 40 supposed to look? He doesn’t even have any gray hair. You’ve got to be about 13 if you think that look is “really old”.

And not caring about money is exactly what rich guys do while they’re cold chilling in retirement. Do you want him to wear a suit and slick back his hair like Pat Riley? Why True Hoop links to this blog is a complete mystery to me. I feel dumber for having read it.

With “BC’s” permission I will post our little email chat we just had:

“Total misinterpretation - I thought you meant he looks real old for
being 40. But it sounds from your email like you meant “Damn, Toni is
    40 already?”

Please feel free to delete my comments or post this email. I missed
    your intent completely.

BC, the headline says “Kukoc got old” and not “Toni looks old”. Maybe you should take a little extratime reading AND writing.

keep up the good work, guys!

Dudes. As a guy who will hit 40 before Kukoc, take it easy on the “old” stuff…

I loved Kukoc and was a fan of those Bulls teams even though i wasn’t a fan. Sure, they sent off the Showtime Laker Era by crushing LA in the finals in 1991, but damn they were pretty. I dug ‘em all: Ho Grant, Luc Longley of my school UNM, BJ Armstrong, Ron Harper…

If you get to talk to Kukoc, ask him about his golf game; that’s what he’s doing. Here, he calls it “the greatest game ever invented” and wishes they’d had more courses in the communist days…

[...] * It seems like just yesterday I was still in high school watching Toni Kukoc play for Chicago and win a ton of championships. Now, he looks like an old man and far from the twenty-something player I remember. [...]

Got something to say?
