It’s now official: Chris Kaman has received his German passport at the German consulate in Los Angeles. So Team Germany has now added big firepower in the paint for the upcoming Olympic qualifiers in Athens.
With the help of German minister Wolfgang Schäuble, the US-born center with German roots is now cleared to play together with Dirk Nowitzki. As the details were discussed with FIBA in advance, Kaman is immediately avalaible to play for the German national team. When he will join Dirk Bauermann and the rest of the squad will be determined in the next few days.

DBB would be better off if they would change the rules about the youth players than shooting greetz out to Schäuble for his “outstanding sport knowledge”. If I were Ingo it would be awkward for me..
This is definetly a wrong sign from the DBB, however, there were so many in the past, that it is a miracle that traffic still works.

Well, Kaman has never been the sharpest knife in the drawer but this takes knuckleheadedness to a new level!
Way to put yourself needlessly in peril for an injury, especially now that the Clippers FINALLY have a top shelf one-two punch in Brand and Baron Davis.
Break a leg, Chris.

@Dieter: Hey, on the other hand, Kaman could make a household name for himself in a single game by performing well against the slightly-small Team USA plus earn himself a free pass through training camp (as Kobe Bryant reportedly informally got from Phil Jackson)…
I wonder how the Clippers feel about this, Kaman has had injury issues in the past.
Taja! Schön! Seine Stärke es was fehlen wir zum weiter machen in unsere Mannschaft! Hoffentlich steigen wir auf gleicher Höhe mit Argentinen,USA, und Spanien.
I hope he does well… Go Kaman, CMU grad

I hope that he sustains a career ending injury. They should revoke his US citizenship immediately. Just because you are not good enough to play on the national team doesn’t mean you go play for someone else.
