Milos Vujanic is now a back-up of the back-up point guard
September 28, 2007 by Julien
I think I know someone who didn’t attend Jasikevicius’ welcome party yesterday… Milos Vujanic used to be the top scorer in Europe, at age 23. He even got drafted by the Knicks, at a time when shopping in Europe was very fashionable in NYC (Fred Weis, Slavko Vranes…). Well, then the Serbian point guard blew up his knees and he became a back-up quaterback for Panathinaikos. 14 tiny little minutes is what he got last year, mostly when starter Diamantidis was in foul trouble or needed a breather. Now that Sarunas is in town, and Diamantidis remains on the roster, Vujanic becomes the closest thing to a cheerleader. No Hollywood ending for someone who once compared himself to Allen Iverson…

plus they have spanoulis who is more of a point guard instead of a shooting guard… well panathinaikos are gonna have to find a way to keep all those players happy cause if you don’t have happy players they are not going anywhere…
You’ve got a point about the minutes he played, but i think it would be more fair to split the season in two parts. In first part he played tiny minutes because he got back from his injury and them his minutes increased while he was getting better and better…
For example in his 1st Euroleague game he played 5 minutes and at some games he played 22 minutes.
Also as far as i remember from OAKA he was the most accurate 3pt shooter.
I know another player who won’t be happy, Becirovic.
PS: Congrats on your blog, nice work.
The first step is to play only in Euroleague..
But don’t underestimate him, in last year’s final four he had two great games.
With two operations in two years, it’s a small miracle that he can play basketball at a high level..
