The Return of the Euroleague Fantasy Challenge Tips

January 8, 2008 by Julien

Things are getting more and more serious. Wanna keep your spot in the Top 1,000 ? I would read that if I were you…

  • As usual, let’s start by looking at the injury list. The Euroleague website usually does a decent job at warning who’s gonna play or not. Well except this week. Here is what they had to say last week. Basically the greatest news is you’d better get rid of Macijauskas who’s out for 2 weeks.
  • Second thing you have to do is check the Euroleague Fantasy tool from Hooppstats. I sorted the stats by "score to win the max" so you know who are the sure bets.

To name a few, you should keep an eye on :

- Scoonie Penn (Efes) who can afford to get  -17.1 Fantasy points and still bring you 3.9 additional credits.

- Gabe Muoneke (Tau Vitoria) needs 1.1 pts for 4.3 credits.

  • You should also pay attention to the schedule to track the potential good match-ups or the easy predictable wins.

For instance, Ulker plays Roanne at home. The Turkish powerhouse has shown some signs of improvement and even upgraded its roster by adding Tarence Kinsey. Plus they play Roanne, a team that plays run and gun and has a tendency to forget a little thing called defense… Time for Solomon and White to shine ? 2 of the worst defenses will also face each other in the Prokom versus Bologna match-up. I would put a cent on Gurovic, Van den Spiegel and Dewarick Spencer.

Here are the 3 moves I did this week :

OUT

Macijauskas (Olympiacos)

Eidson (Rytas)

Splitter (Tau Vitoria)

IN

Gurovic (Prokom)

M.Brown (Zalgiris)

Massey (Aris)

I understand the first and the third moves ( macijauskas and splitter —> i did the same!) but why chuck Eidson ?

  6. Julien on January 9th, 2008 10:24 am

@ Nicolas : I really like Chuck because of his versatility. He’s able to crash the boards, jack up 3’s and dish out assists as well. And the last couple of games, it meant 20+ fantasy nights. I might be wrong but I have a feeling it’ll be much different tonight when Chuck faces the athletic wings of Aris Thessaloniki. This team is gonna slow down the tempo, be agressive on defense. I don’t think Rytas will win and I’m not sure that’s the kind of night where people like Chuck can really shine. It was a strategic move. I thought Marcus Brown could have a better night facing a struggling Ljubljana team. We’ll find out soon enough if my gamble was a success or a total failure…

Gurovic, Van Den Spiegel, Dewarick Spencer are all expected to be out for this week.

  8. Julien on January 9th, 2008 10:49 am

Thanks Marcutis. I suppose you too just read the Injury List update on Euroleague.net that was posted this morning.
Here is the link for everyone : http://www.euroleague.net/news/i/22065/180/item
Gurovic, VDS and Spencer are indeed rumoured to miss the game. And so are : Shakur, Dragic, Alan Anderson, Giovannoni, Lavrinovic, Mulaomerovic, Erdogan or Erden. Since Gurovic won’t play, I’ll use the reset button… I’ll make you know what my final moves are…

    Thanks!

  11. Nicolas on January 9th, 2008 12:24 pm

Thanks for this site and you advices, i agree with your descriptions about Aris. Good luck for week 11.

  12. Kerem on January 9th, 2008 1:56 pm

Willie’s day to day and I don’t think he’s gunna play today, thought we really need him to beat Roanne.. Come to think of it not really :P

  13. Marcutis on January 9th, 2008 2:07 pm

    Out: Lakovic, McIntyre, Bullock
    In: Greer, Jasikevicius, Basile

  14. Julien on January 9th, 2008 2:18 pm

Kerem, if Willie plays and gets like 36 fantasy points or something, I promise I destroy your Facebook wall :-)

Tough week - many good (and interesting matches) that could go either way … I still haven’t decided on my changes 100%, I might have a last-minute enlightnement … However it seems like I will do the following:

    OUT:
    Planinic
    Petravicius
    Salyers (mainly for credits income)

    IN:
    Greer
    Massey
Turkcan (not sure about him - hence the doubts)

  17. Kerem on January 9th, 2008 3:42 pm

Okay Julien (I’ll disable my wall if he has a monstrous game :P).. Mirsad is a good pick since Oguz Savas will be out with a last minute flu! So consider that, which mean more playing time for prospect Omer Asık and low priced Gasper Vidmar (I’ve lost faith in this kid)..

  18. Julien on January 9th, 2008 7:40 pm

14 fantasy points in 12 minutes. It’s the last time ever I listen to you, Kerem…

  19. belalik on January 9th, 2008 8:08 pm

hehe … I just checked live scores and thought of the same thing.. And Eidson at -1 with 2 fouls I think …

I ‘m gutted to have sold Salyers though, he went from -6 to 15 in something like 7-8 minutes … Turkcan is very average unfortunately….

Gotta go out though, I ‘d like to watch some of those games they seem tight, fun to watch

  20. Kerem on January 9th, 2008 9:59 pm

It’s not my fault, scorn the medical team of Fenerbahce Ulker.. Mirsad didn’t play good because he was benched the first quarter, hence he was not hyped about playing a team who is not very important.. :D
