I have spent the last five hours cutting and laughing. Cutting Euroleague TV announcer material, of course.
I was laughing hilariously last night when I watched the games. Some things are funny because the guys actually are funny – sometimes though, I wonder if the Euroleague listens to this stuff and really wants their brand represented like that.
I cut together a TOP3 of this week consisting great name pronunciations, emotions, and of course basketball wisdom from announcers.

so so bad those guys…especially the Italian duo. The EL HAS to be able to find better guys than this. I’m sure if they posted a message on their site asking for submissions they could do way better. Some talented broadcasters would do this for free most likely just to get the experience and have some decent stuff on their resume.
The American guy is really bad – he messes up names – does not see technical fouls and just gives a foul to somebody plus has now idea about basketball in general. I rather listen to emotional Italians that at least give us SOME insight and background information …
That American guy from the ALBA – ULKER game last night should not be allowed to represent the Euroleague at all.
Even if the EL.tv stuff is outsourced, the Euroleague has to make sure their brand is represented well. Like this people will think it is very unprofessional – which it is.
You think the announcer from the ALBA-Fenerbahce Ulker game was American? IMO his accent and a lot of name pronunciations didn’t sound like it at all, he sounded like a European who had maybe lived in the US for a few years and picked up a bit of an American accent.
OTOH the guy who did the Maccabi-Avellino game…he was trying so hard to pronounce the European names with these exaggerated accents that he invented weird pronunciations for the Americans too. Reminded me of Christian Miles on Fox Soccer Channel, for any Americans who have ever head him call a game.
Yep, I agree. Maybe there are a handful of good ones I have not had the opportunity to listen to yet, but in those games I watched (quite a lot) the commentary was almost laughable.
They obviously hardly prepare. As can be heard by how they pronounce names and an almost complete lack of information on the players.
Language level is not great either. I know mine is probably not any better, but Euroleague should set a higher standard here. I can live with the accents, the guys don’t have to be native speakers, but in some cases the sentences they create are hard to understand.
I can live with boring commentary as long as it doesn’t get annoying, but when the play-by-play guy started screaming around after a missed three pointer in the first (!) minute of a game, I was forced to switch off the speakers.
To conclude, just the arena sound – without commentary – is the better solution for Euroleague at the moment.
By the way: the last player name in the first clip was Oguz Savas.

I find a player missing a 3pointer in the 1st minute very exciting. Sometimes better than sex.
Talking about Euroleague organisation, I live in a city with 3 Euroleague teams and next week all of them play away! Come on euroleague, you can do better than that, unless you are doing it to make my buy the TVpackage.
