“Celebrate good times,” as they say, “come on!”
Of course the folks in Lithuania need no such exhortative encouragement after blowing past Team Argentina last night, 104-85, to reach the 2010 FIBA World Championship final four. The tournament has represented an awesome achievement for Europe in general, with three of the four teams remaining, and specifically for Lithuania; who’d’ve figured the wild-card entry entering the tournament at 40/1 would be in a prime position for a medal at the end?
And while the plucky Lithuanians’ memorable road figures to end Saturday when Team USA takes the court against ‘em, nothing can take away the pride a nation feels today – not to mention last night’s party atmosphere in the country. Roll the clips!
In Lietuvos Rytas’ home, Siemens Arena in Vilnius, fans packed the house to watch Lithuania-Argentina on giant screen – and perform a slightly-inebriated version of “Trys Milijonai.”
Nearby, the center square in Vilnius was also cram-packed while the temperature sat at about 12-13ºC (about 54 ºF).
And the real partying started after the final result came in. (Since Team Lithuania broke 100, will Mark Cuban be buying the entire country tacos today?) Here’s the scene from Kaunas old town:
And in old town Vilnius:
What else can BiE add to that, except maybe … All together now!
Galbūt per daug ir per ilgai mes kariavom,
Galbūt per ilgai kartojom žodį šlovė…

Great victory for Lithuania, I wish them luck against USA, but 3 posts in a row for Lithuanian team, is the admin Lithuanian??? Not a single post about Turkey who is by the way host of this tournament and demolished Slovenia, or about Serbia who by the way defeated world and european champions Spain with amazing three pointer, and not a single post about USA who are still favorites to win this world cup? This used to be a great, as far as possible objective blog, and now it turned into glorifying all about Lithuania and their team, I would understand if they won the tournament, but this is just too much. With all respect to Lithuanian fans and their team, i really wish them to beat USA.
i’m feeling it.
+1 for that. This site is ball in EUROPE, and there are 2 other european teams in the semis, or at least 1 and a half team, turkey is both asian and european.
No threads about Teo’s three pointer agains Espana but there were lots of threads about 12giant men song though.
