Jorge Garbajosa to join CSKA
What a signing by CSKA: Terrence Morris joins Ettore Messina for the 2008/09 season, but as you can imagine this was not the last signing CSKA Moscow has announced or will announce. It looks like they are battling it out with FC Bacrelona this year, at least as far as big signings are concerned.
This is where FC Barcelona is still in the lead by signing Spanish NBA player Juan Carlos Navarro. Hold up, wasn’t there a Spanish guy who just came to an agreement to leave his NBA club? Right: Jorge Garbajosa. You can be as sure as anything that CSKA officials are trying to get this man on the roster, or at least considering the move. We heard about Jorge signing with Unicaja, but with the latest weekend deals, Jorge might end up in Moscow: Even the Spanish media thinks so.

Daniel Santiago to return to the NBA
Speaking of Malaga, is anybody thinking about Daniel Santiago from Puerto Rico? Just take a moment and look Daniel up on Wikipedia - this guy is like a chameleon! No, I’m not talking about his eyes; take a look at his name: Daniel Gregg Santiago Lynn. He can either go American with Gregg Lynn or Puerto Rican with Daniel Santiago. Well, just a funny side note…
On a more serious note, I just saw an interview with Daniel Santiago telling us that his contract with Malaga is over and he would love to join the NBA - again. He played for the Phoenix Suns in 2001 and the Milwaukee Bucks in 2003. Santiago also tells us that he would love to play in the NBA, although he has numerous offers from European clubs.
Santiago going to the NBA again … Well, he wishes: ![]()

Carlos Delfino to join Panathinaikos
Sounds great, doesn’t it, Greek basketball fans? And Panathinaikos has to come up with a signing like this. Nikola Pekovic alone won’t be enough to compete with FC Barcelona and CSKA Moscow, especially if Sarunas is leaving the club as many people hope or fear.
In Toronto, Carlos is stuck. He doesn’t get any significant playing time and probably not the kind of money a club like Panathinaikos is willing to offer. Bringing these thoughts together, I am sure Panathinaikos is considering Carlos.

Papaloukas to join Olympiakos
For some - at least some people in Greece - this is already a done deal. I’m fine with that, but I do have my doubts. I was following Papaloukas closely at the Final Four in Athens last year and it looked to me like he was very attached to Panathinaikos, the arena and the fans. Don’t you think that Papaloukas signing with Olympiakos might make things even more difficult? Just imagine the Olympiakos vs. Panthianiakos game … We like excitement so we’ll approve this rumor!

Anthony Parker to return to Maccabi Tel Aviv
Good thinking: This guy knows how the game is played, but let’s not rip this Raptors team apart. Some players still have to remain, right? Meanwhile, I await the first Calderon-coming-back-to-Europe news.
Parker back in Europe … I’ll give it a one-star chance: ![]()

Got something to say?

Papa and oly actually is a done deal already, he is even on the official roster of oly now. And I read an interview with A. Parker stating that he has a great offer from Oly and would “love to play (again) with Vujcic and Papaloukas” but he still has another year on his contract….what about that, oly deep enough with him to compete with barca then? papa, vujcic, halperin..how much more money should they spend, it’s starting to get ridiculous this year in the top euroleague teams.
Maybe it is time to reconsider branding the NBA champ the “world-champ”, as these euro teams might really be too competitive to just brush over and noone seems bothered by a salary cap here as this offseason shows.
According to latest news from Greece and Israel Olympiakos offers contract to Antony Parker giving him 5 millions Euro per year. The player now as per some rumors spoke to Israeli journalists that told that he will be playing to Olympiakos next year by 99% .The only problem is Toronto Raptors and the last year of his contract. It is very possible Angelopoulos brothers to pay Toronto in order to set the player free. Also Papaloukas is already a player of the team as only a few details are missing in order to complete the transfer (as you may not know Papaloukas is a fun o Olympiakos team since he was a child). For last Angelopoulos brothers won’t complete their job even if they manage to sign Antony Parker as they still searching the market for every really good player. After all money is not a problem.
5mill EURO seems just wrong for a year in the euroleague, maybe over two years or even three? I don’t believe this figure, oly already is a too expensive team with too many players to give one guy so much money, especially when you consider that navarro gets 10 mill for 5 years or so.
So you probably got something wrong there or I’d have to quote some popular movie and say “This is madness!”
Where can I read that interview with Anthony Parker?
You may be right, I also believe that this is a lot of money for only a player, but this is what the Greek internet sites and newspaper wrote. Anyway we will see. The only thing that is sure is that Angelopoulos brothers had realize that if they want to bring the team in the top they have to spend enormous money in order to manage it. (Like CSKA did some years ago).
Stelios, would you mind writing the URL in here?

source is an interview with newspaper “Goal News” out today , unfortunately in greek.
A monument for Jean-Claude Trichet !!
How will Pana react to this abundance of players ? I read news about CSKA loading , but where’s Pana ?
McIntyre is quite probably joining PAO, Fotsis went there…if they also keep Sarunas -who took some time to mesh with the team but was phenomenal toward the end of the greek season-, I don’t really see any holes in that team, while CSKA also lost a bunch of starters. PAO just seems to tweak, not change things drastically.
Considering that Pekovic should give them some force under the boards and that there’s so many talented players there, I see no reason for any more big moves on their behalf. I think the prospect of a refined pao with all the important pieces still there and some added power should actually scare every other team into making these big moves. Just look at the money OLY is spending to win something at long last in greece.. don’t worry, PAO will be there .
