Episode #20 of the heinnews/BallinEurope co-produced Taking the Charge podcast is now available online. This week, that hardworking David Hein and yours truly natter on a bit about recent Euroleague developments (poor, poor Maccabi Tel Aviv!), the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Los Angeles Lakers before finally finding some focus in Lithuania.
As BiE continuously says, something’s always happening in Lithuanian basketball and recent times are no exception. Freelance hoops writer/BallinEurope agent in Lietuva, Karolis Jankus gives us a little inside dope on topics including:
• Zalgiris Kaunas and the strange culture of losing theorized about on BallinEurope earlier in the week;
• Team Lithuania head coach Jonas Kazlauskas and the strange events which led to his current gig in the CBA with Boss Wang’s Guangdong Southern Tigers;
• Lithuania Basketball Federation secretary-general Mindaugas Balčiūnas, currently under house arrest while prosecutors “are carrying out a pre-trial investigation into alleged jobbery, fraud, document forgery and [...] illegal use of municipal funds for the reconstruction of the Hotel Romantic” in connection with Eurobasket 2011;
• the perhaps unfairly languishing Donatas Motiejunas, who at least must be praised for attitude and work ethic while running up the DNPs; and
• Lietuvos Rytas’ recent victory in its Nike Invitational Junior Tournament bracket, tourney MVP Edvinas Seskus and other Lithuanian prospects.
And our sports movie review of the week is all about the Academy Award-nominated film Silver Linings Playbook, starring Bradley Cooper, Chris Tucker, Robert DeNiro and Jennifer Lawrence (swoon). Tangentially related to sport at best (Philadelphia Eagles worship colors the reels), hey, it still has Jennifer Lawrence.
The entire podcast may be heard here. Thanks for listening and talk to you next week!

Lithuanian basketball SUCKS. Nothing but a bunch of SCRUBS. No Lithuanian player is good enough to play in the NBA. All the Lithuanian players that ever played in the NBA were absolute SCRUBS.
I like the troll’s new strategy. This is really what makes him the king of all trolls. Even though everyone knows he is a troll just his originality and passion for trolling make you respect him a bit.
He has now gone to taking mike and my screen names and posting outlandish, vulgar and insulting posts.
If Phileus was still here and you hadn’t driven him off he would probably give you a 10/10 on your new take on trolling strategy. Will you never cease to amaze troll?
I didn’t really make that last post.
Since we are almost at the half way point of the top 16 in Euroleague lots look at 3 of the top 4 teams and their top guns:
Read Madrid 6-0
Rudy Fernandez- 2nd in minutes, 1st in points, tied for 2nd in assists and 1st in steals (3 MVP of the Week Awards)
Anadolu Efes 5-1
Jordan Farmar 1st in minutes, 1st in points and 1st in assists.
Montepaschi Siena 5-1
Bobby Brown 1st in minutes, 1st in points and 1st in assists. (3 MVP of the week Awards and 1 MVP of the month award)
That’s the troll again, not me.
Wow. Here comes the next step. The troll is pretending to be me and saying things I actually put were not me. This is getting too confusing!!!
Kleiza, Valanciunas, and Motiejunas all equal SCRUBS. Lithuanians all suck in the NBA, but all dominated in the minor league joke called Euroleague.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter what he makes us say by impersonating us. I will just come back with different names and still make my points across by exposing his ludicrous world of basketball. Or maybe i’ll just keep using my name and still expose him. I mean who cares? It’ s just a name.
If I were Os , I would clean up the system so as to protect individual identity more. It’s clear that the troll is out of control.
What’s more, Gabe. He has now totally exposed himself as an impersonator , a liar with facts, and a bankrupt fantasy world of European basketball. It’s unfortunate he’s destroying legitimate debate this way, but we won’t shut up and we will keep exposing his lies.
Hey Gabe, i saw a bit of your debate with “Euroleague Crazed Troll” on Inside Hoops. Can you believe the troll actually had an elaborate theory on Siena’s win over Olymp with a Mafia type situation. As usual, the game was rigged. Unbelievable! LOL
Yes of course. Every single game that Spanoulis or Bourousis lose is fixed, or the fault of their teammates or coaches, or they’re injured. Duh.
It’s like me proclaiming that Sixers softie Spencer Hawes is the best center in the NBA. I could point to his last game against the Magic the other night when he tallied 21 and 14 and say, “see he’s the best ,look what he did against Orlando”.
Finally, when he plays a more competent team like Knicks and Tyson Chandler and Hawes tallies 9 and 4, I would then say,” well the Mafia got in on the act and the refs rigged we all know the refs are on the take anyway and Stern has a master plan that no white guy will ever be the best center in the NBA so it’s rigged for sure”.
