We’ll attempt to try something new here at BallinEurope and, in lieu of an actual franchise in the big league setting up shop on The Continent (confidently expected any century now), adopt a home team for the NBA’s 2012-13 season.
Which team deserves to be called Europe’s team in the NBA? You decide! Vote below the break!
Which NBA team should be BallinEurope's "home" team in 2012-13?
- Minnesota Timberwolves (38%, 115 Votes)
- Toronto Raptors (26%, 78 Votes)
- Denver Nuggets (18%, 56 Votes)
- Portland Trail Blazers (18%, 56 Votes)
Total Voters: 305
In going through the rosters earlier, BiE happily noted that four NBA teams are bringing four European players each – at least on the 15-man roster – to North American courts this season, leaving us with something of a conundrum: Do we side with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the reigning Euroleague MVP, his sidekick and wearer of the universe’s greatest tattoo while we play another round of “Waiting for Ricky”? The Denver Nuggets as perhaps the only one of the four with a realistic chance of making noise come playoff time? The always European-friendly Toronto Raptors with “face of the franchise” Andrea Bargnani and Lithuanian sensation Jonas Valanciunas? Or the multinational and fun-filled Portland Trail Blazers?
Well, you decide! Below runs a poll for readers to vote for the team from which they’d like to get extra game reports, articles, video highlights and of course lots of media bias in 2012-13.

I am going to vote for Port ‘Free’ land Trailblazers… JOEL FREELAND!!!!!!
I’m a big Rubio fan, so when he gets back in the swing of things, Minny should be the continent’s home team, clearly.
for sure Minnesota, as they have the most Europeans with the biggest influence on their team! I really started to like them!!
In denver and Portland they do not have yet that influence yet, and even if Toronto is Canada so more European cultured, they just suck xD
I had to vote for Minny! It has the most interesting storylines:
- Is Minny really a playoff-caliber team with Rubio, rather than Ridnour, playing the point?
- Did David Kahn laughably overpay for Kirilenko when he probably could probably have lured him back to the NBA for less money?
- Is Shved an NBA SG, PG, or a mistake?
- Will Pekovic kill a man with his bare hands on the court one day?
Phileus, Rubio and Ridnour are miles apart. Yes, Ridnour is a much better shooter, and takes care of the ball, but he’s boring and never gonna lead Minny to anything. I will say it again, Rubio is a special player, and can be called what the Rockets now call Harden, a “foundational player”. He could be the PG of a future NBA Title team.
Shved, I don’t know, very talented, but erratic. Let’s see.
With Kiri, he’s there to help defensively, and run some of the offense. Pek can be a beast, and many say he is the strongest man in the NBA.
I’m not on the Rubio bandwagon yet. Yes, the kid is flashy and fun to watch (and hey, that counts for a lot – sports are for entertainment to watch) but I haven’t seen what makes him get praise for being a potential title-winning PG yet. Last seaosn, though, I think it was you that pointed out that his rookie stats were similar to those of J-Kidd, which I found pretty interesting. But I’ll have to see how he produces this season
I’ve voted for the Wolves, but it really should be the Spurs.
The Spurs only have 3 European players (all Frenchmen) but a total of 7 international players (over half the team).
Yeah the Spurs are more the French ‘HomeTeam’ rather hat European ‘HomeTeam’.
How about Chicago?
Denver
