Greek media says Panathinaikos is close to finalize a deal with Chinese national team shooting guard Guo Ailun.
The total pay package (base salary and bonuses) is equal to about $800,000 US dollars gross (before taxes)…………….
This is really something. Guo is only 18 years old!
This is the first Chinese player to sign with a Euroleague team!
For Panathinaikos to spend $800,000 a year on an 18 year Chinese player – they must be expecting some HUGE TV revenues from China.
Also, there are rumors now starting that Olympiacos might also sign a Chinese national team player (a small forward), in order to ensure that the top Greek clubs get huge TV deals with China.
Also, it is said that the Greek League is looking to workout a deal with the Chinese teams so that they can send their best players their to be developed, in exchange for large TV deals in China, and the Greek clubs’ Greek league, Euroleague/Eurocup games being broadcast in China!
LMFAO at the Greek League stealing the Chinese basketball TV market.
Yeah after having the top players in their league beaten by Nigeria and not even making the Olympics to showcase their talents to the world they can not longer market their league as having top talent so this might be a very smart business decision by them. Kudos to them!
