Russian Repeat ?

All this talk of Miss Italy and Miss Gazzetta being hoops addicts nearly overshadowed the fact that there’s actually a European Championship going on at the moment… After 3 games, 12 teams are still competing for the continental crown. Czech Republic, Belgium, Spain and Russia definitely have an edge as they are the only undefeated teams so far.
Russia looked especially solid knocking down Greece, France and their Italian hosts. Lead by point guard Ilona Korstin and FIBA Europe Women’s Player of the year Maria Stepanova (2.03 m, 15 pts – 8 rbds – 3 swats per), the Russian team looks like an early favourite. More than able to follow the men’s national team’s footsteps.
Igor Grudin’s girls play some serious basketball. Hence, last year at the World Championships they managed to end Team USA’s 12-year winning streak in a game for the ages. If you don’t believe me, watch that tape
