Besiktas Cola Turka schedule: Who's in Iverson's future?

October 25, 2010

now add one A.I.

With Allen Iverson to join the TBL’s Beşiktaş Cola Turka, BallinEurope reckons the team will be getting a little (read: a lot) of extra attention from all parts. And so today, a brief look at the team’s current state in the 2010-11 season.

After two games, Beşiktaş stands at 1-1: The club won an away opener at Türk Telecom in a 94-82 shootout while succumbing to visiting Banvit, one of the league’s better teams, 74-61 in week two.

Thanks to consecutive wins against Deutsche Bank Skyliners in the qualifying rounds, Beşiktaş is also competing in the 2010-11 Eurocup competition, the team’s sixth straight bid. Eurocup ball tips off on November 16th with Beşiktaş in a tough group containing last year’s Serbian Superleague finalists Hemofarm Stada, 2009-10 Euroleague team Asvel Basket, and BC Goettingen in the mix.

Earlier this month, Beşiktaş defeated Oyak Renault to earn itself a spot in the Turkish Cup tournament as well; the four-team tourney will be played in 2011.

Two other Turkish squads – Banvit and Galatsaray Café Crown – are participating in the 32-team Eurocup. Along with the perpetually domestically dominant Euroleague teams Fenerbahçe Ülker and Efes Pilsen Istanbul, these five are/should be the class of the 2010-11 TBL.

Confirmed dates on Beşiktaş Cola Turka’s schedule run below; Iverson is expected to join the team by the November 6 match against Bornova.

As for how to watch the games, well, BiE’s working on it…
