The Canadian Basketball team is on a roll for the Olympics

September 14, 2015

Canada is breezing with their national basketball team through the FIBA Americas championship. On Wednesday, they met Dominican Republic and it was delightful game to watch. Final scores were tallied for them – at 120-103, but it was an all-contributing performance from the entire team that led them to this huge win.

Similar results took place at their previous bout with Mexico on Tuesday night and with a swift start, Canada was able to move past Mexico just after the opening quarter alone. It was 7 consecutive victories for this team, and their only hiccup in this tournament had been Argentina at the opening round.

Crowds have been seeing a total dominance from Canada at this championship as they continue to extend their win streak by more than 17 points in each game. As a result, it is high time for Canada for their journey in 2016 Olympics in Rio. They are currently the no. 1 seed after Mexico miraculously defeated Argentina.

Mexico’s win over Argentina was certainly an upset, as they came back strongly to compensate their 15 point deficit when Gustavo Ayon pitched his tournament’s best, 38 points in just under 39 minutes. Mexico will again play Argentina this Friday, and they are quite positive about their chances of winning that game as well.

Future schedules include another match between Canada and Venezuela, who have been seeded no. 4 in this tournament. Venezuela is the last opponent standing between the Canadian basketball team and the Olympics. Canada is desperate to perform for their first Olympic seat since 2000.

Previous matchups favor Canada, who won against Venezuela with a 20 point lead in this very tournament. It is so close for Canada, but they are certainly not being complacent at this crucial stage of the tournament. top5onlinecasino.ca owner and Kelly Olynyk, the Canadian forward commented similar sentiments and said that they are just focusing on their semi finals for now.

The head coach of Canadian basketball team, Jay Triano chipped in, saying that the whole team is only concerned with their immediate opponents and playing each game with the best that they have. He said, “The 1st game was an experience and we shall tackle this Friday’s game similarly.”

It seems that Canada, being a favorite in this tournament, is not generating a lot of buzz. On Tuesday night, their bench was in full volume. With Cory Joseph and Anthony Bennett, who has achieved persistent consistency this season, Canada was able to rack up early points.

He hit up early points for the team and later set up a sure shot for Nik Stauskas on a kick out. With this performance, Canada was leading at the end of 1st quarter with 36-18 and they blew the game wide open with their impressive 3 point shooting.

Defense might remain a concern for Canada, as it was evident from the Dominican Republic game. The game would not have been so close if Canada had not loosened up during later stages and allowed their opponent to maintain a close score. Nonetheless, they have earned their spot on the flight to Rio.
