The best sportsmen Europe has to offer

December 20, 2016

Europe hosts a number of exceptional players from a range of different sports- these sporting professionals have constantly wowed fans and broken records which have made them become icons of their game and most definitely their team. Sports can be so important for the community, the reason for this is because, certain sports stars create a sense of belief for their supporters. Their marquee players produce inspiration for the people who watch them so with that being said let’s have a look at the best sportsmen Europe has to offer.

Cristiano Ronaldo – Football

There’s that constant dispute of who is the best footballer in the world: Messi or Ronaldo, but surely in recent times, it has to go to Ronaldo. In 2016 he has managed to win the European Championships with Portugal claiming their first title and then Win the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Fifa Club World Cup for Real Madrid. In addition to this, as an individual has won the Ballon d’Or and the UEFA best player in Europe making him the first footballer to win the Champions League, European Championship, Club World Cup and the Ballon d’Or all in one year. The stats just prove that he is the best footballer at the moment and arguably the best ever and deserves to be on this list.

Maro Itoje – Rugby Union

After England endure a horrible World Cup campaign in 2015, Eddie Jones revival has transformed certain players in the national side and one of these players is Maro  Itoje. Already, Itoje has been nominated for a breakthrough player of the year award and everyone in the rugby world knows the name Maro Itoje. The 21-year-old has been riding the crest of a wave that has grown, exponentially, over the last few years and shows no signs of abating. With Itoje in the squad, for his club and country he has managed to create a win streak that extends to 28 games, which is a very impressive feat for this young man. Do you think he’ll be able to lead his country to six nation’s glory once more? If you confident, you show off your predictions and boast your rugby knowledge.

Marc Gasol – Basketball

Memphis’ Marc Gasol is one of the most exciting European basketball players to have played in the NBA. During his career, he has anchored the leagues stingiest defence and became the 2012-2013 defensive player of the year. Gasol became the first player in Grizzlies history to earn the awards. He deserves to be on this list due it his defending dominance, each season he manages to produce jaw dropping stats and it’s fair to say that his is currently the best NBA player to come out of Europe.

Roger Federer

See I was going to pick Djokovic, but Federer has created a legacy in within the tennis game.  It’s hard not to select Roger Federer as the greatest of all time. His record 17 Grand Slam titles speaks for themselves and despite his decline, at his age now, he still has the capability of winning more titles. In addition to this he has 302 weeks ranked as number one which is an open-era record, so there’s no arguing that he is the greatest of all time.
