Le Mans signs Zach Wright, completes roster

July 23, 2009

Le Mans wins in the Euroleague qualifying rounds! Well, it’s a sort of victory, at least. The French club today signed Zach Wright, most recently of Chalon-Sur-Saone, thus becoming the first Euroleague qualifying team to complete their roster. Wright played college ball at University of Arkansas Little Rock, wherein, notes Euroleague PR with irony, he played against current Le Mans guard Dee Spencer, an Arkansas State alum.

(Euroleague.net) — Le Mans became the first team to complete its roster for the upcoming Euroleague qualifying rounds by inking pass-first playmaker Zach Wright to a one-year deal, the club confirmed Thursday. Wright (188 cm, 24 years old) arrives from Chalon-Sur-Saone, where he averaged 11 points, 5.9 rebounds, 6.3 assists in 31 French League appearances last season, leading the league in steals at 2.5 per game. Wright had previously played for Spot Up Medien Baskets Braunschweig, where he led the German second division in scoring (24.8 per game) and steals (3.5 per game). He also played for the University of Central Missouri and the University of Arkansas Little Rock in the United States, where he played against Le Mans star guard Dee Spencer, who was with Arkansas State in 2004 and 2005. He helped Centenary to make it to the NCAA II Tournament final four in 2007 and win the MIAA Tournament title, earning MVP honors.

“I expect him to offer defensive skills and creativity,” head coach J.D. Jackson said. “He will give added value to other players, especially to our two scorers, Dee Spencer and Marc Salyers. He is still young and motivated to take the challenge.”
