Best of the (Basketball) Net: Rants 'n' quotes edition

Darko will be back...

Darko will be back...

Wrapping things up for the weekend here at BallinEurope means mostly one thing: a rundown of some of the best basketball stuff made available online this week. Some news, quotes and video for this week starts now.

Starting off with a well repeated, now-definitive story, then: Namely, the New York Knicks’ Darko Milicic will be returning to Europe for 2010-11: “It’s 100-percent certain. I have to be real and not lie. I’m not going to get it done in the NBA. I’m not going to get another opportunity and there’s nothing wrong with going back to Europe. I don’t want to create a bad atmosphere here, but it’s not working in the NBA.” (Any early bidders…?)

...but Pau probably wont.

...but Pau probably won't.

The ACB official website features a Spanish-language interview with Pau Gasol after the big man signed his four-year extension with the Los Angeles Lakers. Among the comments is this key bit: “The possibility of me playing the next [FIBA World Championship] is remote. There comes a time when I have to take things seriously. … I intend to keep my body in a position to continue playing and I cannot do what I have been doing so far. There must be a time to stop and it’s probably now.”

Why did Madrid lose at Panathinaikos? According to an impressive rant from coach Zeljko Obradovic, it’s because Madrid was forced to play some five-on-eight (i.e. five players plus three referees). If the Euroleague were David Stern’s, Objradovic would be ponying up Mark Cuban-like money for this diatribe.

Speaking of El Hefe, here’s Cappie Pondexter on Stern’s assertion that women could be playing NBA ball some day soon. Says Cappie, “We honestly got the skills to compete with men and at the end of the day ‘a hooper is a hooper’ regardless if you’re male or female.”

Jurica Golemac went from Panathinaikos to Alba Berlin. What does he think about it? See here. (At least for the public version.)

Well, since it’s almost January, it must be time to break out a mock 2010 NBA Draft list – or even a third version. Here’s one from Matt Anaya of The Hoop Doctors (among others); how d’ya like Donatas Motiejunas at no. 2 overall?

Finally, here’s the most-talked about non-Kobe Bryant-centered video of the week:
