Euroleague Top8: the favorite songs

April 4, 2008

As the final games of the Top 8 are approaching; they are played next week; I was thinking about which songs the main players are eventually listening to during the break they have now before the Final Four deciders.

All the players from TAU Ceramica may still have their ears whistling after the tremendous atmosphere in Pionir Hala from yesterday. But they have some other problems right now as they are have the same feeling this English Rock Band is describing so very well.

Their opponents from Partizan Belgrade have already fulfilled their job better than anybody else. While the team’s only foreigner Milt Palacio does not speak Serbian, he may have the good idea to invite his team mates to his native island of Belize when they win it all. At least, he is reported to have this song on his ipod in heavy rotation and that Nikola Pekovic and Milenko Tepic already prefer the island to the United States.

The games continue with the match-up between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Barcelona. While Israel is still sexing up its own image and giving confidence to foreign tourists, the Maccabi players are getting pumped by their coach Zvi Sherf to prepare the yellow invasion of Madrid by doing magical things.

And Barcelona, well, they seem to remain alive only through one player, Gianluca Basile. The Italian guard was shooting the ball like it were the last days of his life and he netted with a precision that looked more like a Japanese Basketball Manga than real live. So Basile was probably pumped by this Sharpshooting song and he will listen to it the whole trip to Israel next week.

The last game of the decision phase will be the rivalry between CSKA Moscow and Olympiacos. We heard that Marcus Goree while playing in Germany has become a huge fan of the German Rock band Rammstein, so the chances are big that he is listening to this song every day when driving through Moscow for practice and games.

And for Olympiacos, we heard that since the arrival of Panagiotis Yannakis as head coach, the players have to listen to one specific song in the locker room before the game. Well, it seems that Qyntel Woods has become fan and plays his best basketball since then and has put it in his stereo of his car. Well, I don’t know if that’s reason that the Reds are contenders now.
