Will the Russian Borat fan win the NCAA crown?

April 5, 2008

Well, this title may sound a bit strange but I try to give some info about the NCAA Final Four that is played this weekend in San Antonio. What has this to do with Europe? Well there are some Europeans playing in San Antonio with their respective schools.

While the teams of Memphis and North Carolina are set up only with Americans, the two other contenders UCLA and Kansas feature also some talent from Europe. And why am I talking about Borat here? Well, this article from the New York Times that portraits the Kansas Senior Sasha Kaun from Russia and he is states that his favorite movie is Borat. That’s all about the link between Borat and the Final Four.

Well the role of Sasha who had a big game against Davidson in the Elite 8 will be to stop Psycho-T Hansbourgh from North Carolina in order to qualify Kansas for the National Final. The Russian senior has played his 4 years of College Basketball in Lawrence, KS and will try to join the NBA after the season. However, he will probably attract the interest of a lot of European teams, especially the Russian ones as he holds that very worthy passport.

The team from UCLA also holds some international prospects. Not less than five players have foreign roots and our view will of course focus at the Montenegrin born Serb Nikola Dragovic. The 2m03 tall forward played with the Serbian U20 team last summer and won the Gold Medal in a team stacked with talents like Milos Teodosic or Milenko Tepic. Dragovic, who is only in his Sophomore season will not enter the European Basketball scene this summer as he will continue his studies with the famous Californian university.

He played really well in the Tournament.
With Scott Pollard (also a Kansas alumni) having such a long NBA career, I think Kaun could also get a 8-10 good years of a back-up Center career.
But he will get more money from Russia.
