Basketball Camp in the U.S.

January 31, 2008

Since we get about 10 emails a month if we know a good camp where parents can send their kids, I will talk about one camp that I know myself. I am talking about the official basketball camp of the Philadelphia 76ers. It always was my dream and will always be a kids dream to play in the United States. If you have nice parents they care about your wishes and look into it but it is not that easy to find the right camp.

Last summer I got the opportunity to be a coach at the Philadelphia 76ers camp. For somebody who likes to help kids with their dream, still have fun and do all these things with current NBA players this was the best experience I could have.

I got to talk to Samuel Dalembert and the shooting coach of the Seattle SuperSonics, who by the way did not like that the Sonics drafted Durant.

I also met a ton of European kids who really wanted to show the Americans that they can play just as they can.

But what do the kids really learn at a camp like that? I talked to camp director Todd Laundrey about that.

As you learn, you’ll get to put your lessons to use in full-court games, twice daily. When you arrive, you’ll be assigned to a team of eight players that will compete against other teams in their age/ability divisions. Using an equal-time substitution rule, everyone gets a fair share of game time. Plus, you’ll play supervised one on one, three on three and practice foul shooting daily. In between instruction and games you’ll swim in our Olympic-size pool, and go boating, fishing, or kayaking on the lake. You’ll not only become a better player, you’ll have fun doing it.

So if you either want to meet me this summer in Pennsylvania (just kidding) or send your kids to a FUN but professional NBA camp – this is the camp I would recommend.
You can find more information on sixerscamps.com or just drop me an email.

    I hadn’t realised you were a coach.
