Basketball World Cup of Beer: Quarter Finals – Part 2

August 15, 2014

BWCB Opening Ceremony
We are in the latter stages of the 2014 Basketball World Cup of Beer. It began with 24 beers, one for each of the nations in the FIBA World Cup of Basketball. Now we’re down to the elite eight. It’s time to find out our first two semi-finalists.

Here are your match-ups on day two of the quarter-finals:
Ozusjko (Croatia) vs Admiral Benson (France)
Al-Ahram Stella (Egypt) vs Old Harbor Kofresi Stout (Puerto Rico)

It’s time to turn 4 into 2…

Ozusjko (Croatia) vs Admiral Benson (France)
There’s no question this was the weaker side of the draw and it shows in this match-up. Ozusjko is a pretty bland lager with a hint of citrus. Admiral Benson has some high fruit notes with tangy mango. It’s the Globies against the Generals in beer form.
Winner: Admiral Benson (France)

Al-Ahram Stella (Egypt) vs Old Harbor Kofresi Stout (Puerto Rico)
Another unfortunate mis-match. Old Harbor has been the surprise package of this tournament, quickly establishing itself as one of the best beers in this tournament. It’s been a good run for Al-Ahram, the only African beer to survive the first round, but there’s no debate here.
Winner: Old Harbor Kofresi Stout (Puerto Rico)

No surprises here. The two beers on this side of the draw that belong in the medal rounds were clear from the off and they will rightly face off for a place in the final next week.
