FC Barcelona adds Gary Neal

February 4, 2008

Interesting move from Barcelona right before the top16, isn’t it? What do we know about Gary Neal? BallinEurope reader and Turkish basketball expert, Kerem tells us what he knows.

After being skipped on the draft list, Gary Neal decided to come to Turkey after an offer was made by the Izmir side, Karsıyaka, in September 2007.

Anyway, Barcelona paid 400k to the club, I don’t know how much he’s getting. There were a lot of speculations about what would happen after his departure, in fact a couple of board members have resigned after the announcement of this trade, and the coach’s statement was not so optimistic as well. They still have Hosley and Sean Marshall, the two will be Euroleague players next year if not NBA, and it is said that Karsıya are looking to sign a guard called Geno Carlis.

Gary is 24 years old and he has a great future ahead of him, he’s a true scorer and likes to play crunch time, rather a clutch player. He’s 6’5 and defends well as well, here are some of his stats; 36 mpg. -25 ppg.-5 rpg.-4 apg. – and a steal per game. In his last game here in Turkey, he dropped 27 in a losing effort..

Why are they complaining? It’s an excellent deal. 400K euros will solve a lot of problems for them while they get to keep their best player Hosley…
