Highlights: USA win gold, Serbia take bronze at FIBA U17s

August 17, 2014

Saturday saw the climax of the 2014 FIBA Under 17 World Championship for men with the USA beating Australia 99-92 in an exciting gold medal game. Tournament MVP Malik Newman had a double-double as the USA claimed its third straight title at this grade.

It was a cracking final but in the end, the USA had too much for Australia’s brave air raid down the final stretch to work.

Serbia made up for last year’s narrow defeat in the FIBA Europe Under 16 final by taking bronze in Dubai. They avenged their loss to Spain in that final with a 62-59 win.
