Parker out for France, most of world gets misreportage

August 2, 2009

Depressingly for Team France fans, the heart of soul of La Republique’s EuroBasket squad, Tony Parker, will not be playing for the time being.

News services are today reporting that the San Antonio Spurs guard will be staying in the United States to get some additional rehab on an ankle injury suffered in a Team France friendly against Austria. While Parker will reportedly be rejoining Les Bleus sometime next week, he will not be playing in the qualifying round game against Italy.

Even more depressingly for international basketball fans, the story reported first by the official site of the San Antonio Spurs (and subsequently picked up around the world from here to India) refers to Parker’s upcoming absence as making him “unavailable for France’s *Euroleague Championship* qualifying round game with Italy.”

EuroBasket, Euroleague … what’s the difference, eh?
