Former Tiger Oglesby going to Napoli

August 18, 2009

South Carolina media is reporting this morning that former Clemson University/Team Norway guard Terrence Oglesby has signed with Serie A club Original Marines Napoli; terms of the contract were not disclosed.

The story of Oglesby’s intention to go pro first captured the minds of Clemson fans (and college basketball fans generally) in late May when the then-sophomore made a surprise announcement that he’d test the waters in Europe rather than continue as a Tiger.

At that time, Oglesby was reportedly set to hear out offers from 15 clubs in Spain, France, Poland and Italy without representation of an agent, though most outlets reported he’d be signing with an agency before officially joining a team. It seems as though Oglesby has signed with the newly-relocated Napoli independently, however.

After a dominating stint playing for his Cleveland, Tennessee high school, Oglesby went on to Clemson. In his freshman year, he rapidly established a reputation as a sharpshooter, particularly from three-point land as he led the Tigers in three-point shots made and shooting percentage from beyond the arc. He chased his successful 2007-08 college season with a tournament-leading 24.4 points per game for Team Norway in the 2008 FIBA U20 Championship Men.

Back in the ‘States for 2008-09, Oglesby went for 13.7 points per game and again led Clemson in three-pointers made.

On the signing, Oglesby said simply that “This was just too good of an opportunity to pass up” and that’s currently he’s “learning Italian as fast as [he] can.”

Oglesby is reportedly still chasing the NBA dream in the hopes of getting drafted; to that end, he participated in this year’s NBA Eurocamp.
