Iverson’s 26 points for naught as Tofas blows out Beşiktaş Cola Turka, 94-72

December 30, 2010

Allen Iverson’s best performance since signing with Beşiktaş Cola Turka was all futile, as eleventh-placed Tofaş took a 33-13 first quarter lead and never looked back for the 94-72 victory.

Mr. Answer produced 26 points on 9-of-16 overall shooting plus in time-honored Iversonian fashion also took nine free throws, second highest in the game, plus dished out five assists and snagged three steals. (Video of A.I.’s highlights follows the break.) A.J. Ogilvy, who is playing on another level since the Iverson acquisition, contributed 18 points and eight rebounds.

Unfortunately, few more Eagles appeared to have been on their “A” game, as the only other Beşiktaş players who managed more than *three* points were old reliables Cevher Ozer and Mire Chatman; this pair put in 11 points each, but on combined 9-of-21 shooting. In fact, beyond Iverson and Ogilvy, Beşiktaş managed a gaunt 29.7% shooting percentage on 11-of-37 success.

Top scorers for Tofaş were Austin Nichols with 19 points, while Jason Rowe and Ilkan Karaman each had 18.

Despite the loss, Beşiktaş held on to sixth place on the TBL table at 7-4 but are already 2½ games behind the three-way logjam among Galatasaray Café Crown, Fenerbahçe Ülker and Banvit BK at the top.

Beşiktaş’ next match is scheduled for January 2, when the Eagles host Galatasaray. Tipoff time is set for 5pm CET (11am EST).

And now for something completely different:
