Turkey calling Iverson … and NBA fans encourage the move

October 13, 2010

Ah, sometimes BallinEurope finds NBA-centric fans positively equanimous. Or maybe NBA.com has just seen a flood of traffic from this side of the puddle these last couple of days…

Feeding on the red-hot speculation that Allen Iverson will soon be heading to Istanbul’s Besiktas Cola Turka to play, the big league’s official website ran a poll alongside Sekou Smith’s column on A.I.’s NBA departure.

The vote runs between:

“Go to Turkey. Ballplayers play ball and A.I. still has the tich to play and needs to scratch it before that will dissipate”

and

“Don’t go to Turkey, A.I. There are still a couple of weeks left in the preseason. Some NBA team will call.”

A direct contrast to a similar poll was seen a month ago: When readers were asked to opine on whether Iverson should stay NBA-side, play in China or retire, a sliver under 50% advised A.I. to wait for a call from an American team.

The vote this time? As of this writing, 57%-43% in favor of Iverson playing in Turkey. Nice. Welcome to Europe, A.I.

Incidentally, Besiktas has been marked as a no. 2 seed for tomorrow’s 2010-11 Eurocup regular-season draw, which is scheduled for 11am CET.
