… and the next derby is also ahead

November 2, 2007

Besides the Italian Basket City derby that will be played on Saturday, there is another huge European game just ahead. On Sunday, Panathinaikos will face Olympiakos, THE game of Greek basketball.

It is still very early in the Greek season, but already the first big choc will happen on Sunday when Panathinaikos will host in a probably sold-out OAKA thir arch rivals Olympiakos. Both teams are undefeated in the Greek A1 league, but Olympiakos has already one loss in the Euroleague.

But all this does not count anymore, on Sunday the game will start at 0-0 and the whole Greek basketball scene will watch the thriller. The Trash Talking has already started several days ago on the different forums where you can also find a great photo gallery made by our fervent reader Arkadios with some legendary duels of the PAO-OLY history.

An important choice has also to be made by the Olympiakos management as the rules only allow to have two US players on the roster, but Oly has three (Lynn Greer, Qyntel Woods and Marc Jackson). And according to the latest rumors, it will be Marc Jackson that will play together with Lynn Greer. Of course, the US born guard Roderick Blakney will be present but he has a Bulgarian passport, so he counts as a Bosman players.

Woods had a terrible game vs Olimpija in the Euroleague. Gershon didn’t look really happy with him. He lacked intensity in defense and was quite confused in offense.

The only thing i can accuse Woods of is his defense, it simply sucks.

Of course he is confused in offense, who wouldn’t be with Greer as his PG?

    Yeah, true. 😉

Greer isn’t a true PG and sometimes can’t involve his teammates in the game (he isn’t good at distributing the ball).

In my opinion Olympiakos needs a “pass-first” mentality PG along scoring maschine as Greer. They have Teodoši?, but it seems that he is just too inexperienced and Gershon doesn’t trust him enough.
