Why MySpace is still a lot of fun

November 2, 2007

I never had a profile on MySpace and I will never have one. No, I don’t think I am too cool but to me it looks more like just a huge marketing opportunity for some people out there. You can’t find any profiles anymore that are “real” and just there to tell you about their life. I just checked Ron Artest’s MySpace profile and must say that you get no information at all from him besides his “hip hop career”.

But as you can imagine I also found somebody who really does the profile still himself, besides being a pretty big deal over here in Europe: Mario Kasun.

Mario KasunThe name should make some NCAA and NBA fans listen up since Mario played college basketball at Gonzaga. In 2004, he returned to the US to play for the Orlando Magic. In the 2004-05 season he played in 45 games for Orlando and averaged 7.9 minutes per game. In the 2005-06 season he played in 28 games.

The 7 ft 1 in (2.16 m) tall Center player for Euroleague team AXA FC Barcelona is also known for his 30! tattoos which makes him look like the white Lebron James to me.

I am not sure if LeBron James has a MySpace site and if he also would make that clear that he is really writing the profile himself. If you are supposed to be on Mario Kasun’s MySpace site will be explained by himself:

I love my family and my friends and I am here to keep in touch with them. So if u don’t like me or some of them f.. off.

From the background of his profile I also assume that he likes Linkin’ Park as well as hip hop. Not to tell you that he has a bad boy image but Mario likes tattoos, hip hop and the MySpaces girls that write him all the time don’t look too bad either.

Mario, if you ever read this, please start blogging! We need more “true” people in this business and want to hear their point of view.

I once bumped into Tanoka Beard’s profile on MySpace. The funny thing is that he presented himself as a hip hop singer there and hardly wrote anything about basketball.

Quite some Slovenian players use MySpace. For example Lakovic, Udrih, Dragic, Ozbolt and others.
