Basketball team owner buys a mythic chunk

November 21, 2007

Today, I found an amazing article about an even more amazing story on the website of the International Herald tribune. The IHT and basketball, it is maybe not the best reference but this story is worth to be talked about here in my opinion.

For people who follow closely the European basketball scene may have noticed a team from the Netherlands with the name of Eiffel Towers Den Bosch. The team is a regular competitor for the Dutch Eredivisie Champion and also participates in the ULEB Cup this season.

Of course I could talk about their game from yesterday evening against Zadar, but I did not see it. I could also talk about their other games in the ULEB Cup but actually the ULEB Cup website is again doing strange things like linking to wrong pages and so on. Whatever…

So what I am actually trying to tell you is that the owner of the team, a certain Erik Kurvers, who is a financial consultant who named his company after the famous French architect Gustave Eiffel, bought a piece of the world famous Eiffel Tower in Paris. In fact, in a official auction this weekend, he acquired a 4.5 meter winding iron staircase at the price of €150,000.

I won’t comment on his use of money as I don’t comment the errors concerning basketball in the article, but I thought that this is a real nice story, somehow different from what we normally post here.
