Best of the (basketball) net: Never Gonna Give You Up edition

September 13, 2009

Found in Ball in Europe’s meanderings online this week: A buncha stuff on Eurobasket, the Allen Iverson-in-Memphis deal, and what Ron Artest was doing on September 11th this year. Happy Surfing Sunday!

As Eurobasket progresses, the Euroleague page on Facebook has naturally had capsule blurbs on the action posted this week, and a certain team’s fans helpfully supply a bevy of comments consisting mostly of “PARTIZAN!!!!!!!!!!”

Via said Facebook page, the folks at the Greek Hoopz blog posted as response to Spain backers a video flashback to a couple years ago and “What truly happened in Eurobasket 2007.” Backed by a bitchin’ soundtrack (Can anybody tell me where the music is from?), this video will have you in stitches. Unless you’re a Team Spain fan.

Amidst one hell of an exciting ‘n’ unpredictable tournament, one outlet expressed disdain for the hosts’ organizing abilities at Eurobasket 2009. Everyone has an “IMO,” one supposes, but what does “can’t offer a hot water dispenser […] within a decent radius” mean, really?

A slightly humorous column on the Ricky Rubio situation over at Sports-Central.org compares the young point guard to Rick Astley. The article’s here. Just kidding – it’s here.

Here’s True Hoop’s take on the non-European transaction of the basketball world this week; BallinEurope is about as skeptical on the potential improvement A.I. will bring the Memphis Grizzlies, but surely the man will play as though possessed this season.

Those wacky dudes Slam and Freaknick contribute a near-poetic entry on Joel Freeland and Robert Archibald’s Unicaja teamup.

Finally, meet the last man on the planet who hasn’t heard of the Los Angeles Lakers. Not even Ron Artest.
