Best of the (basketball) net: Soccer, Serbia, Sergio and Sherri edition

November 22, 2009
Sergio!

Sergio!

What were we reading at the BallinEurope virtual offices this week? Glad you asked! Here’s a handful of stories on all matters Euroball for your perusal. Happy reading, everyone!

One to watch, possibly: Serbian import Darko Cohadarevic of Texas Tech.

Hey, did you know the Major League Soccer (America’s, ahem, top fútball league) championship goes down today and that the Salt Lake City team is competing for their first-ever title? No? Neither did the Utah Jazz’ Mehmet Okur and Andrei Kirilenko.

Speaking of AK-47, Wednesday saw the Russian do something he hadn’t in this season: namely, come off the bench in his now-familiar sixth-man role.

And on Tuesday, “forgotten man of Spanish basketball” Sergio Rodriguez showed he “has a pulse” in finally seeing a little action with the Sacramento Kings.

Sherri Mikus is “living the dream” in Romania. And so is Tyrone Ellis in Georgia.

A dispatch from no less a source than Yale University ponders whether playing college ball is overrated or Brandon Jennings is “simply the best teenage basketball player we’ve possibly seen in history.” Incidentally, if you’re surprised this view came out of Yale, remember that school was George W. Bush’s, one in which he couldn’t make the baseball team.
