I have read the news yesterday on eurobasket.com. It just said that the team suspended Delonte Holland from Virtus Bologna – a Euroleague contestant – because of problems with the coach for today’s Euroleague game against Zalgiris Kaunas.
In 2005 after playing for Atlas (Serbia-Montenegro) Holland, who played college ball at DePaul, got an offer from the Boston Celtics to join their training camp but did not make the jump to the NBA.
I wrote a quick email to Fabrice Turmel from – an Italian insider for Virtus Bologna – to ask him what really is going on with Delonte. Here is what he had to say:
Basically what happened is that Holland had a terrible game, got frustrated and said things to the coach he shouldn’t have. The president Sabatini said he was not sure to get back in the team because there are rules that he has to understand and if he doesn’t he’ll be sold. Apparently, that is not the first it happens to him. So he’s definitely out of (tomorrow’s) today’s euroleague game and for the following fixtures, we’ll just have to wait and see what the coach Pillastrini and Sabatini decide.
