Who’s the star now? Dylan Page verbally schools trash-talking Marc Salyers in France

June 4, 2010

Page: "Yo momma got a leather wig with gray sideburns."

Comment dit-on «My momma ain’t no astronaut!» en français? Current Le Mans forward Marc Salyers had better start brushing up on his trash-talking skills a bit after getting schooled both verbally and on the court by Dylan Page.

In the leadup to Tuesday’s LNB semifinal match between Le Mans and Chorale Roanne, Salyers stunningly answered a reporter’s question regarding Page thusly: “Comparing me to Dylan Page is like comparing a star to a flashlight.”

But Salyers’ instant-classic Barkleyesque simile soon became classic motivational fuel for Page and his Le Mans mates to take out top-seeded Roanne, 99-95 in overtime of the second semifinal match between the teams. All Page did was go for 17 points in the win while the power forward held Salyers to eight points and six rebounds.

To top things off, immediately following another overtime bucket by Page and during a timeout, Page went to the media table to rhetorically ask Sport+ commentator Jacques Monclar, “Who’s the star now?”

In the post-game, Chorale Roanne head coach Jean-Denys Choulet summed things up with a pair of quotable quotes of his own.

On Page’s performance, Choulet said, “[Tonight] I saw a flashlight that worked very hard.”

On his own loquacious player, Choulet said, “I love Marc, but he shut have shut his mouth.”

And Billy Hoyle said, “It’s got nothing to do with luck.”

Game three of the Chorale Roanne-Le Mans semifinal series tips off tonight at 7pm CET (1pm EST).

A tip of the cap to Christophe of European Prospects for turning BiE onto this story.

I think Dylan is just mad because every day he goes to practice he has to see Marc’s jersey hanging in the rafters.

first off, i’m a big fan of ballineurope. but how can you write a story about this bum. he had a good year at roanne. so i give him credit, the best year of his career was better than the worst year of my career. thats something to be proud of…i guess. personally i think he is just a little upset that in Roanne my jersey is retired and hanging from the ceiling and his is hanging in the closet, where it’ll stay for the summer while he watches me on TV play for the championship. which, in my 4 years in france, happens to be my fourth final in a row(with 3 different teams).

Wow, your comparing a player who hasn’t one a championship in the French League with a player who’s won multiple titles, scoring titles, MVP’s etc.. Is ballineurope trying to be a credible website or a donkey show???

Donkey show? Ouch. I think the next piece here will have to be something entitled “BallinEurope gets verbally schooled for reportage of French shenanigans.” In all seriousness, best of luck to Marc Salyers and Le Mans in the LNB finals!
