Eurobasket 2009, day 12: Quickie thoughts, congratulations, predictions

September 18, 2009

Whoa, a bit too much Pau Gasol for Team France last night, eh? Now that was the Spain everybody’s been wanting to see, if only as an object to hate on. And congratulations to Serbia as well, for just playing a wonderful game in basically brushing aside Russia; i’ve not been so happy being wrong in a long time.

Look out, theyre coming...

Look out, they're coming...

As far tonight’s games, the BiE fearless predictions say Turkey and Slovenia advance. Of course, as some readers suggest, that means these 5-1 teams will be going down…

i believe your fearless predictions are REALLY fearless as i do not feel comfortable about today’s matchup between turkey and greece. being a turkish national, i clearly feel that greece has what it takes to beat turkey because i think the favorite teams of this tournament will show their ability much more after qualifying rounds.

we saw the example yesterday as spain was quite harsh on the undefeated france.

“…an object to hate on”… WOW!

I remember Yugoslavia, URSS and even Greece being as mercyless as Spain and I really really really loved to see them play in the old days.

I hope your hate (I know is partly IRONIC) means good omen for a struggling team that, let´s not forget about it, was 4 points below Great Britain a couple of minutes before the end of the preliminary game…

@ Migala: Hey, i love the way Spain looks lately and i’m not a hater. But i’m sure many fans will be against the favorite and cheering for an underdog. Totally an ironic comment and i’d just like to see the best team — whoever that proves to be — win.

    Thanks for reading and commenting!

THanks, David. I guess much of the Spain’s so-called arrogance is due to having struggled so much during the early stages. They looked like a group of dead fishermen! Now they are like sharks ;-D

what the hell was that? Greece’s offense took 29 secs! What kind of refs are they? Ok, Turkey missed a lotta chances but totally deserved to win. Shame on you refs and Asik.

oh yeah.. One word of wisdom. Do not bet your money on the Turkey when it is HOT because it usually melts down right then and there. If this and if that, come on guys, this Turkey lost the game mentally before it even began. Even they were surprised when they took a commanding lead in the 4th until they gave it away too quickly and too soon. Worse of all, it was Hedo who gave up the lead with the traveling call he got (he did travel by the way). That was the turning point of the game. Loss of confidence, stress etc. Big teams must handle these stresses. Unfortunately I would think the coaches have alot to do with destroying or boosting their players confidence. Turkey coach was definitely not helping somehow since last three games these guys played, they were beating themselves by over psyching themselves. so I see Spain taking the medal in this tournament. Slovenia is the runner up. Actually I should revise the statement, Spain 52% Slovenia 48%.
