European experts predict USA to win the Olympics

August 8, 2008

In a joint poll run by ACB.com and BallinEurope.com, fourteen European based basketball experts were asked for their most likely to happen final ranking of the 2008 Olympic Games. And it is Team USA that got the most votes.

Together with ACB.com, BallinEurope asked 14 experts to give us their predictions for Beijing. 10 times, USA was the Gold Medal candidate, 3 times Spain was the first one and one participant voted for Argentina. The third candidate for an Olympic medal was Greece, while two persons also saw Lithuania go for a Bronze Medal. One strange voter even went for Germany winning the Bronze medal. I don’t know how good this “expert” knows the World Basketball scene…

So below, you can find the final combined vote as well as all the different results coming from our experts.

hm this germany pick might be pretty smart. Here’s the deal: Germany can
definitely go to the semis (one game – Dirk goes crazy over say Russia-no Spain,USA or Greece on that group).
But if they go there, they definitely have more motivation for the bronze than
Spain! Another spanish failure to win it all + Dirk’s being pretty psyched about the medal = Germany easily 🙂
Of course that would presuppose that Spain loses to Greece at some point (group or semi) and that Argentina loses the first spot of group A.. I wouldn’t bet on any of those even if I AM greek
