Giannis Antetokounmpo gets paid the most per point in the NBA

April 19, 2023

Research by Sportingpedia marked the Greek Freak down as earning over $21,000 per point in the regular season

Greece and Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetkounmpo was paid the most per point by any player in the NBA this season according to research by Sportingpedia. Antetokounmpo averaged $21,691 (€19,761) for each of the 1,959 points he scored in the 2022/23 season.

Luka Doncic was fourth on $17,351 (€15,812) for each of his 2,138 points while Joel Embiid, who is from Cameroon but holds a French passport, was sixth on $15,399 (€14,035) per point for his 2,183 points.

Obviously there’s more to a player than scoring but it’s still fun to see how these numbers break down. It’s also no surprise that the highest paid per point players happen to almost universally be amongst the best paid players overall in the NBA as the best players, more often than not, tend to also be the best paid ones.

There was one outstanding entry in the top 10 however that merits special mention. Anthony Edwards scored 1,946 points this season, clocking in at just $5,516 (€5,029). The only hard data that truly gives us is that Edwards is going to get paid handsomely when he negotiates his next deal.

The Eastern conference utterly dominated on a $ per points basis in the top 10 with Doncic the only one of the top six from the Western Conference. Zach Lavine was the second best paid per point followed by Trae Young, Doncic, Donovan Mitchell, and Embiid.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, favourite to win the most improved player award, was seventh, followed by Jayson Tatum, Julius Randle, and Edwards.
