Jasikevicius turns down Lietuvos Rytas offer; club to sign another PG

October 19, 2010

Šarunas still jersey-less

Maybe Šarunas Jasikevičius has the same career counselor as Allen Iverson … With basketball leagues now begun throughout Europe, the four-time Euroleague champion and all-decade team member, has officially turned down a contract offer from Lietuvos Rytas.

Still residing in Athens – his daughter was born there in late September – Jasikevičius adds his long-ago squad to a growing list of rebuffed suitors after offers from Panathinaikos and Žalgiris Kaunas were also not taken by the Team Lithuania mainstay. Rumors say that unnamed Greek clubs may be interested in obtaining Jasikevičius’ services, but EΣAKE players remain on strike.

On Lietuvos Rytas’ part, club GM Jonas Vainauskas explained that they have two other possibilities to fill the gap at point guard created by the Jerry Johnson injury, but that the club had prioritized the signing of Jasikevičius. L. Rytas figures to have a player signed by game two of Euroleague play.

Aris and Panellinios are both interested in signing him. The question is whether he wants to play in Eurocup.
