Jordi, bring in some Chinese

April 24, 2008

Everybody in the basketball world knows Yao Ming and the impact he is having on the NBA. Chinese surfers are the second largest community to check nba.com and Ming is a regular top vote at the NBA All-Star game. Marketing-wise Yao is the man for the NBA.

So why is the Euroleague not hardly trying to enter this emerging market like finance people call it. Ok, there were the CBA-Euroleague games that have been played before the regular season but Euroleague fans did care as much about these games than NBA fans cared about the NBA Europe Live Tour.

So why not bring in a Chinese player to a Euroleague team. I mean, the Euroleague could only take profit out of this, the games would be televised in Far East and followed by a whole nation. Currently, the Chinese that play abroad are only heading to the United States. But why not to Europe? Are they any good enough? Or does the Chinese government prefer to use them as spy in the United States? 😉

I am totally in favor of such a move, by the way, what happened to Wang Zhi Zhi? However, seeing the Euroleague website crash in normal game days and Lithuanians trust fan votings, I guess, the idea is not that good anymore if I want to follow the best league in Europe easily at home.
