Nikola Pekovic: Best tattoo in the NBA – no, the Universe

September 28, 2010

Media day in the NBA gave a lot of newbies, unknowns and ubiquitous presences (see coverage of Miami Thrice schmoozing at right) alike the chance to know and be known. Minnesota Timberwolves fans and players alike are well enthusiastic about their new addition Nikola Pekovic, who’s already generating hilarious quotes from his teammates with just his general badass demeanor and play.

Said Wayne Ellington: “I’m making him my new best friend.”

Said Michael Beasley: “I don’t think nobody has the guts to challenge Pek to a fight, nobody. Pek is 300 pounds, he’s 6’10” and he’s from Serbia. [Actually Montenegro, no? – Ed.] I don’t think nobody wants to challenge him.”

Said Kevin Love: “He wants to make friends with us before he knocks a few teeth out.”

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune goes on to make note of Pekovic’s “no-nonsense haircut and bicep tattoo that –”

To which BallinEurope interrupts, “Holy otherworldly phlebotomy, Batman! Look at that ink work!”

Seriously. Click here for a bigger version of the embedded photo above to get a decent look at the tatt: Bloody incredible stuff that, and it surely set “Pek” back quite a few euros. If this isn’t the greatest tattoo in professional basketball, BiE wants to know about it. Also, if you have a better image or a link to a closer-up shot of Pekovic’s work, please post it here.

In the meantime, enjoy your new inside presence, T-wolves fans. Maybe he can even induce some better play out of ol’ Darko…

After being a Euroleague star for three seasons, you discovered Pekovic because… some NBA people praised him?

    Might aswell name it ballinnba.com

What are you talking about? He was the star for a while already, and that acknowledged here… Anyway – hilarious news 🙂 Should be really interesting to see how he looks overseas, because I’ve NEVER seen him being moved around here in Europe.

I see 😀 yeah in europe nobody can’t move him from the post ,but in NBA there are biger and stronger players, but i think he will be just fine around 15 points and 10 rebounds per game in NBA..

There is no NBA player other than Yao or Shaq that is stronger than Pekovic. Pekovic is way stronger than Dwight Howard for example.

Here is the best photo of Pekovic’s tattoo that I was able to find.

    http://www.fivemagazine.es/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Kosta-Koufos-Darko-Milicic-Nikola-Pekovic.jpg

By the way he is from Montenegro (Bijelo Polje), but he is an ethnic Serb and that is why there is confusion about it. You can even see that on his tattoo he has cyrilic four S (same as latin C) on the shiel of the soldier which means Samo Sloga Srbina Spasava (Only Unity Saves The Serbs).

Also, he is great player I’m kinda sorry for him that he went to NBA because he wont get enough playing time to show all the things he can do. He was top5 Europe players before he whent to NBA and now he averiges about 6-8 minutes per game in one of the worst NBA teams TWolfs.

One the other hand im happy for Darko. Keep up with and improve even more, because your cappable.
