Romanian playoffs: Ploiesti up 2-0, Cluj-Napoca and Medias 1-1

May 3, 2011

Kevin Ford, now with Ploiesti

BallinEurope has received an update from Adi Micinic of TotalBaschet.ro on the Romanian playoffs, currently underway and featuring a couple of that league’s heavyweights. BiE hopes to be updating the list of European champions soon, but for now, take it away Adi!

CSU Asesoft Ploiesti are up 2-0 in its best-of-five series against Steaua Turabo Bucharest. The game 1 score was 89-85, while game 2 was 82-72. Both were played in Ploiesti and game 3 is scheduled for Wednesday in Bucharest. If Steaua wins that one, game 4 will be played on Thursday. CSU Asesoft are riding a 21-game winning streak in the playoffs and were last beaten in Game 2 of the semifinals in 2009 season. This represents five straight series wins without a loss.

In the other semifinal series, U Mobitelco BT Cluj-Napoca are tied 1-1 with Gaz Metan Medias. Medias won on Cluj-Napoca’s court in game 1, 67-65, while game 2 went to the home team, 78-72. Cluj-Napoca. Games 3 and 4 are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday in Medias. If necessary, game 5 will be played on Sunday in Cluj-Napoca.
