Slingbox – how to stay in touch with US Sports and more

January 21, 2009

US sports coverage in Europe, especially with basketball, football and baseball, isn’t that great at all. Especially on group probably misses ESPN and all the shows: US professional athletes.

I was fortunate enough to live in countries such as France, Spain, Germany and Poland while following the life of professional athletes and in terms of TV it is probably the worst thing of being away from home. You won’t understand one word – although Italian commentators can be really funny – even when you don’t understand one word.

A few weeks ago a US-basketball professional talked to me about slingbox – how cool it is and how she is on it ALL the time now. I was like – damn I want that!

Slingbox basically allows you to watch your whole list of 1000 US channels in great quality anywhere in the world. The best – it is legal! Slingbox is hooked up to your TV and the internet – so with the right software you can watch US TV from anywhere in world – with internet.

The setup took us – one week. It was a slow and annoying process but in the end it works. I can even hook up my laptop to my flat screen at home and watch it in a normal TV.

I guess I just sold out the house for the ALL STAR game, which won’t be shown here in Germany this year. I’ll be watching with my Slingbox!

More information about the Slingbox is right here.

    Hi Tobias,

I have gone to the slingbox site, but I can’t find any list of available channels. How did you purchase the box? What did it cost?

These 1000 channels, are they taken from a given cable network or where do they come from?

Michelle, What do you mean by terrible? What is the resolution? Is it worse than standard TV?

I think it is my internet connection here in Hungary. It has its good and bad days. 🙂
