SportingBet lines and odds for Euroleague week six matchups

December 3, 2009

Taking a brief look at the professional prognostication for tonight’s Euroleague games and, whoa, do the bookmakers really have Asvel Baskets and Zalgiris Kaunas as the game to watch tonight? Crazy, though a bit understandable when one considers the pointspreads given in three prospective David-and-Goliath matchups (AJ Milano at Panathinaikos, Cibona at Montepaschi Siena, Fenerbahce at Barcelona).

The pointspreads and over/under lines for tonight’s Euroleague games, as provided by Euroleague/Ball in Europe sponsor Sporting Bet are as follows.

Panathinaikos vs. AJ Milano
Handicap: Panathinaikos minus 18
Over/under: 156.5

Efes Pilsen vs. Lietuvos Rytas
Handicap: Efes Pilsen minus 8
Over/under: 149.5

EWE Baskets Oldenburg vs. Asseco Prokom
Handicap: EWE Baskets minus 3.5
Over/under: 156.5

Montepaschi Siena vs. Cibona

Handicap: Montepaschi minus 20
Over/under: 143.5

Union Olimpija vs. Maccabi Tel Aviv
Handicap: Olimpija plus 4
Over/under: 156.5

FC Barcelona vs. Fenerbahce Ulker
Handicap: Barcelona minus 16
Over/under: 145.5

Asvel Basket vs. Zalgiris Kaunas
Handicap: Asvel minus 1
Over/under: 143.5

What’s to like? Two underdogs seem enticing – Zalgiris and Maccabi – and taking the Lithuanians plus one point seems wagerable. The Olimpija-Maccabi game should prove particularly enticing with a couple of subplots in play: Olimpija seeking revenge for the Euroleague opening-day drubbing they took at the hands of Tel Aviv, and Tel Aviv’s inability to control the game on the road. In three games at home, their point differential is +15; on the road at 1-1, they’re at just +3. Can this Maccabi team really cover four points against perhaps-awoken Olimpija and Matt Walsh…?
