The Lithuanian Finals (or, The Return of Arturas Jomantas)

May 7, 2008

Lithuania, the country of basketball, is playing its finals these days between archrivals Zalgiris Kaunas and Lietuvos Rytas. It is not the simple result of the first game won by Rytas that is being discussed, however, but the once again unfair play of Arturas Jomantas.

It’s not like this is the first time that the Lithuanian forward is going for some nasty tricks on the court. A lot of people made him responsible for injuring Drew Nicholas in a Euroleague game this season. He has also been in some pinpricks with Zalgiris Marko Popovic before and is known for some strange type of in-game eateries.

But now in the first game of the finals in Lithuania, Jomantas went a bit too far in testing one of the most loved players here at BallinEurope, D.C. Collins. The YouTube clip has already reached Top 20 status in terms of “most discussed” today so we will go for our part too. This crochet-move by Jomantas was absolutely unnecessary and really, what did he want he to do with it? Hurt Collins? If so, he had to come up with more than just this little sidestep. He should have gone for something like this. But see for yourself.

hey, thats why i gave him “bruce bowen douche bag of the night” award when i saw him play. If this was on a street court and he did this to someone then it wouldnt surprise me at all if he got an elbow right to the jaw…but then again, i doubt he would be dumb enough to do stupid crap like this if he played pick up. He’d probably be the biggest fastest guy on the court. I would just love for someone to clip him when he goes up for a layup, and have him land on his head. I think he;d learn to respect dirty plays after that if he got up. Maybe some player thats about to retire or go back to NBA can make it happen?
