Imagery of the 2012 Olympics, as tweeted by basketball stars

August 1, 2012

Between the amazingly-named US women’s soccer goalie Hope Solo calling out Olympic TV commentator/former Team USA star Brandi Chastain in the 141-character format and the nasty little bugger who shall not be named here (not to mention the censorship of a British reporter critical of NBC coverage of the ‘Games), Twitter is having a bad Olympics.

But perhaps this will make up for things a bit … the folks at image-sharing site Pixable have put together the widget embedded below, a continually-updated real-time slideshow composed of photos and images uploaded unto Twitter by basketball Olympians. Amid the personal shots players posing with family members, fellow athletes or, in one case, Prince Harry himself, are some quite nice in-game shots – and one of handball by loyal tweeter Pau Gasol.

Also lending their photographic efforts and/or retweeting skills are Lebron James, Chris Paul, Anthony Davis, Rudy Fernandez, Swin Cash, Lisa Leslie, Candace Parker, Émilie Gomis and Deron Williams’ shoe.

As Pixable’s collection will be updated throughout the Olympics, bookmark this page to check out more uploads from the London Games’ hoops elite.

Message to: Americans mike, Gabe, and Phileus

    From Australia:

Greece didn’t get just one bad call. They 4-5 HORRIBLE calls called against them in the last 2-3 minutes of the game. 2 in the last 3 seconds. Why were they down 1 with 3 seconds to go?

Because Dagunduro did a clear offensive foul and instead of the refs calling him for it, they sent him to the free throw line. Otherwise, Greece should have been leading by 3 points with 3 seconds left.

You sound like petulant little spoiled brats the way you keep trash talking and ridiculing people over that Greece vs. Nigeria game. I am Australian and I was watching that game online and I was absolutely stunned at how the refs stole that game for the Nigerian team.

It was one of the most clearly rigged games I’ve seen in my life. It was like watching the 2002 NBA WCFs of Lakers against Kings all over again. I really think you need to shut up and quit bashing people that complain about that game.

Because the refs rigged it without question. Hell, there was an 8 second violation by Nigeria at the end of the game and the refs didn’t even call it. Nigeria got the ball over the line one on possession towards the very end of the game at the 12 second mark. 12 seconds on the shot clock and the refs didn’t even call the 8 second violation. This cannot happen unless there is a purposely done game rigging by the refs.

I really wonder what the hell is wrong with people like you three. You come here telling everyone that you are basketball fans, yet you are absolutely giddy, tickled, thrilled, and happy when one of the elite teams of world basketball gets blatantly stolen of the Olympics by the refs.

So instead we get to see one more scrub team like Nigeria competing. Between the hosts GB, China, Tunisia, and Nigeria we have 4 awful scrub teams to watch. Then we have my Aussie team, which isn’t a scrub team, but still is definitely below the European teams like Greece in quality.

I am sorry but I agree with the Euros here about you two. You are definitely NOT basketball fans. You are trolls. Because you obviously do NOT care about basketball at all. You are just coming here to attack and criticize Europeans on a daily basis.

I don’t know what your malfunction is, but you definitely act like ugly Americans on a daily basis here. Any REAL and actual basketball fan would be furious that FIBA refs are intentionally knocking good teams out of the Olympics and making the already extremely watered down tournament even weaker. To the point even of being practically unwatchable in the early stage.

USA versus Nigeria, Lithuania versus Nigeria, GREAT! What wonderful games to watch such a terrible team like Nigeria. Can’t imagine why any Euro nuts as you call them would have rather seen Greece instead.

Since naturally anyone thinking that is both Euro and nuts according to freaks like you. Also I really find it hypocritical that yanks are saying no one should complain about the refs to the Greeks that visit here.

Yanks are STILL complaining about the 1972 Olympic final, and that was a case where the refs didn’t actually help the Soviets, according to EVERYONE from outside the USA. Yanks are STILL bitching about that game and claiming the refs stole it from them, even though after numerous independent reviews FIBA has always claimed the refs did nothing to help the Soviets, and in fact actually helped the US.

Compare that to this Greece – Nigeria game that you bloody ugly Americans keep telling Greeks to shut up about it. FIBA reviewed the game and almost immediately sent a letter of apology to Greece’s federation and admitted the refs blew the game with bad calls at the end.

So, for a couple weeks some Greeks were naturally and understandably upset over the refs taking away their Olympics place, and you are here cussing them, telling them off, calling them crazy, making fun of them, etc. But you Americans are still going on about a game that happened 40 years ago and where no one from outside the USA has ever believed the refs actually blew the game.

Your own precious Coach K bitched about the 1972 Olympic final to the media just 2 years ago, and here you are openly trashing the Greek coach in this website for being mad that the refs screwed his team over.

You know what you are? I will tell you what you are. You are,

    HYPOCRITES

    HUGE HYPOCRITES

    SICKENINGLY HUGE HYPOCRITES

Here we are even today with you calling Euro people nuts and telling them off over this and having the guts to call them trolls. I just want to vomit every time I have to read this idiocy from you fools. PLEASE just stop it.

You are either 10 years old, racist (as some others say), or you are psychos. I don’t know which, but just stop it. I assure you that many people coming to read this site are incredibly sick of you. You are low-life trash and you are destroying the good will of international basketball and making basketball fans from all over the world hate every yank and every NBA fan.

You really are three trashy individuals. I am so sick of reading your filth in this site that I am now actually hoping Team USA loses. I normally root for them, but now I think it would only be justice for them to lose, because it is clear that there is something very wrong with a lot of the NBA fans from the USA.

I could not even use the word arrogant or ignorant, because you three are about 1000 times beyond that. Your trashy comments in this site have made enough bad karma against Team USA to last for a decade.

hahahah And this evening’s entertainment goes to….Aussie NBA fan.

First off idiot if they did call the offensive foul Greece would have been just leading by 1 point. Greece couldn’t hit their free-throws, stop Dagunduro or box out. Do you have a link showing the FIBA apology letter or is that something you just made up? Comparing some missed calls to 72′ when the refs gave the USSR two extra chances to win the game after the US won it twice.

I only have won thing to say to you…Nigeria. Nigeria! Long live Nigeria! Greeks take it up the ass from Nigeria. Dagunduro > Spanoulis. Yes the Olympics is such a water downed tournament, a waterdowned tournament that Spanoulis and his girl friends on the Greek National team will be watching at home like us, crying as they don’t get the global exposure of the Olympics. Vassilis who? Wasn’t he a gay porn star or something.

It’s interesting to see what events the different athletes like to check out in their spare time. And why do Olympians always bite their medals when they get them?

If was FIBA I would fire every ref that worked that qualification tournament.

Them rigging the tournament so Nigeria made it was the single worst decision in the history of FIBA.

Watching USA versus Nigeria and their roster full of guys that are somewhere in the 2000-3000 best player in Europe range was the most pathetic thing I have ever seen in sports in my entire life.

USA average margin of victory against Greece = 7 points

    USA beat Nigeria by 83.

Seriously, at this point in time, FIBA and its corrupt bull shit has become the biggest disgrace in the whole world of sports.

We don’t fucking want to see shit teams like Nigeria in the Olympics. STOP RIGGING IT SO THEY MAKE IT IN.

    BURN IN HELL FIBA.

I can’t even watch this crap the Olympics basketball competition is so fucking awful. This shit is rigoddamndiculous.

I am starting to see the Euros are right about Gabe. He’s just trolling.

He keeps saying that minor leagues from around the world are as good as Euroleague because Greece lost to Nigeria.

But when Lithuania, a team made of mostly Euroleague players beat Nigeria – he said nothing. So he is clearly trolling. And I checked Nigeria’s roster and he’s also lying about Nigeria.

Nigeria’s roster has 3 players that played in the NBA. Another 3 that played in the Euroleague, 2 that played in the Eurocup, and 3 that played in the Spanish League.

That’s hardly even remotely close to the false claim that Gabe has been making here. Where he says over and over that Nigeria had one guy that had played in the NBA and the rest all played in NCAA or D-League.

After seeing his clear lie about the USA – Greece average score differential, I decided to start checking up on his claims. Already I see numerous lies he has been telling about Nigeria’s roster, to make it seem much worse than it really was.

And like I said, he keeps claiming this as proof some inferior leagues are better than Euroleague. But Nigeria has 3 guys on the roster that have played in the NBA, some others that weer drafted by the NBA.

They lost to a Lithuanian team mostly made up of Euroleague players. I have not seen one comment from Gabe about how that proves Euroleague is better than the NBA.

But he keeps making this claim that any league in the world is better than Euroleague.

Now that I am checking Gabe’s claims, it seems the Euros that complain about him are telling the truth. The guy is lying on just about everything he says. See Gabe, when you tell so many lies, you will eventually get caught, and when you troll so much, you will eventually get outed.

I went back and checked your claim that Greece was made up of Olympiacos roster. It’s not. Just 1/3 of it was. I also checked your claim that it was the 4 best players of Olympiacos. I looked at the team stats of Olympiacos, and what you said is absolutely a crazy lie and a huge troll that would make even the biggest trolls blush.

Spanoulis is the best Olympiacos player, and Printezis might be the next one, although it’s quite debatable, as he is in the same level of importance to that team, more or less, as several other players. But Mantzaris and Papanikolaou are nothing more than bit part role players, that play a minor role on that team.

So Greece’s team had just the best player of the Euroelague champion, one of the key rotation players, and 2 guys that play a bit part as role players of minor importance.

So, Gabe lied about the makeup of Nigeria’s roster, and the background of its players, then he lied about the makeup of Greece’s team and he lied about the roles of the players on Olympiacos.

That’s enough lies to me to realize Gabe is indeed a liar and a troll and that the Euros here are right about him. if mike and Phileus do not believe this, then I challenge them to check themselves. If they do not, and just make personal attacks and troll posts instead, then I will believe that they are sock puppets of Gabe.

This can all be easily verified by checking the team history of Nigeria’s players and by checking the team stats of Olympiacos in Euroleague last season.

I have been reading here for a long time, and I just am sick of all this trolling and arguing. So I decided to see which group is lying and which one is telling the truth. Because I saw Gabe make a clear lie in another thread.

After just checking a few of Gabe’s claims, I have seen he is lying about virtually everything he says here. So, at this point in time, mike and Phileus are going to have to choose if they want to be outed as sock puppets, or if they want to step up to the plate and admit that Gabe is telling lies here.

I am waiting, and I will be looking over more of Gabe’s claims here, and exposing any more lies.

I never said only one Nigerian player ever was in the NBA I said currently the Nigerian team had only one player presently in the NBA and the rest were NBA rejects, meaning they didn’t make it in the NBA.

Also about the Greek team, Papanikolaou scored the most points in the Euroleague final and you’re going to tell me he is just a bit role player? And Mantzaris was a starter in the final game.

Gabe you are lying. Just admit it. Nigeria has 3 players on their roster that played in the NBA. You said over and over that it was just one player.

Papanikolaou and Mantzaris are bit part role players for Olympiacos.

    Here are the statistical facts:

    http://www.euroleague.net/competition/teams/showteam?pcode=002812&clubcode=OLY&seasoncode=E2011

Those are the Olympiacos team stats. You are obviously lying when you claimed that Papanikolaou and Mantzaris are among the four best players of the Euroleague champions. You lied, end of discussion.

Also, you lied when you said that all of Nigeria players were college and D-League players. Here are the actual facts:

Tony Skinn – has played in the Adriatic League, which is a mid tier European pro league, and is considered a much higher level than the D-League.

Ekene Ibekwe – has played in the Adriatic League, which is a mid tier European pro league, and is considered a much higher level than the D-League.

Ike Diogu – #9 NBA draft pick and played 6 seasons in the NBA.

Al-Farouq Aminu – #8 NBA draft pick and played 2 seasons in the NBA, coming up for a third.

Ade Dagunduro – has played in the German League and Belgian League, which are considered a lower level for Europe, but are both considered much better than the D-League.

Champ Oguchi – has played in the FrenchLeague, which is considered a lower level for Europe, but is considered much better than the D-League.

Koko Archibong – has played in the Euroleague, which is considered the #2 league of the world and to be leaps and bounds above D-League level. Has also played in the Eurocup.

Richard Oruche – has played only in the top league in Portugal. Now this is actually considered at or maybe even below D-League level. So there is ONE “D-League level player”, and he is a third stringer on Nigeria. Still he isn’t “college player”, as he does play professionals.

Ejike Ugboaja – #55 NBA draft pick. Made the Cavs NBA regular season roster in 2006-07, but was kept inactive. He still made the regular season roster though.

Has played in the Eurocup, which is usually considered to be somewhere around the second to fourth best league in Europe, and the third to fifth best league in the world. Hardly at D-League level.

Derrick Obasohan – Plays in the top Spanish League, which is usually regarded as the second to third best league in Europe, and as the third to fourth best league in the world. Hardly at all can you call a starter in the Spanish League a “D-League level player”.

He has also played in the Eurocup.

Alade Aminu – plays in the Euroleague, the second best league in the world.

Olumide Oyedeji – #42 NBA draft pick and played 3 seasons in the NBA. Has also played in the Euroleague and the Spanish League.

So Gabe, you claimed numerous times here that Nigeria’s roster consisted of 1 NBA player and 11 guys that play in college or the D-League. FALSE. You have been lying. Did you not know that someone might check this, since you kept saying it over and over?

    Nigeria’s roster actually consists of,

    12 professional players

11 players that have played in pro leagues that are above the D-League level

3 players that have played in the NBA

    (Diogu, Al-Farouk Aminu, Oyedeji)

4 players that have been drafted by the NBA

    (Diogu, Al-Farouk Aminu, Ugboaja, Oyedeji)

4 players that have made an active regular season NBA roster

    (Diogu, Al-Farouk Aminu, Ugboaja, Oyedeji)

3 players that have played in the Euroleague

    (Archibong, Alade Aminu, Oyedeji)

3 players that have played in the Eurocup

    (Archibong, Ugboaja, Obasohan)

2 players that have played in the Spanish League

    (Obasohan, Oyedeji)

So the truth is that Gabe has been lying about the level of Nigeria’s players, about what European leagues they have played in, and about the level of some of Greece’s players on Olympiacos. All in an effort to make up lies about the level of the Euroleague and of Greece’s national team.

He also never says anything if a European teams wins a game against an African or Asian team. Nigeria beat Lithuania and Greece and he spent days on this forum claiming it as proof that the Euroleague was no better or not as good as numerous other leagues around the world, and that Asian and African national teams were as good or better than European ones, and that EuroBasket was no better than the tournaments in Africa or Asia.

But then when European teams beat Asian and African teams at the Olympics, he is dead silent, never once saying a thing. Using his own argument and logic, then it must mean Euroleague, EuroBasket, and European teams are better than their African and Asian counterparts, yet he does not say a word.

But he is still claiming supremacy by African teams, and that the Euroleague is no better than many other international leagues, based on 2 games at the qualification round. One of which ended in very controversial terms.

Gabe is a liar and a troll.

First off your lying. I never said Nigeria’s players were D-league. I said they play in the Puerto Rican, Belgium, French, Portuguese league etc which is true… And also looking at the Olympiacos team stats shows that Mantzaris was a starter and Papanikolaou became one of the most important players, 2nd in the team in minutes played and points for the final four games. Not role players

Ezra proved he was lying and he just lied AGAIN.

Mantzaris one of the 4 best players of Olympiacos?

    LMFAO

There is no end to how crazy and how low this Gabe pervert will go.

And Papanikoloau was the 6th leading scorer of Olympiacos. I have read your fucking shit here from months now about Kirilenko was “a mere role player and barely average” in the NBA because according to you he was a 4th scorer of his team.

But here you are claiming the 6th scorer of Olympiacos as the 2nd most important player of the team.

You are a seriously fucked up and scarily creep individual.

Things change during the season. Jeremy Lin was the 12th man for a while on the bench. The fact is that as the season moved on a games got more important Papanikoloau’s game expanded. He was second in the team in scoring in the two final four games and actually led Olympiacos in scoring in the Euroleague final.
