Jeremy Tyler to resurface in Japan for 2010-11 season

Jeremy Tyler, the San Diego high-schooler baller who decided to take his talents to Israel as a 17-year-old, now hopes to reemerge as a viable high pick in the NBA draft by way of Japan. Now 19, Tyler will be playing the 2010-11 season with the oddly named Tokyo Apache and former NBA coach Bob […]

Mediterranean Basketball Association: To Be or Not To Be?

The rumor first popped up a couple of days ago on Talk Basket and an intriguing bit of gossip it is, too. According to that website, the Hellenic Basketball Federation (EOK) and former FIBA Europe president George Vassilakopoulos are advancing the idea of a Mediterranean basketball league which would include teams from Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, […]

The new Steve Porter is here! The new Steve Porter is here!

BallinEurope will relate this item to basketball, though there are riffs aplenty to all of American sports in Steve Porter’s work – no matter. This DJ’s work is simply “fantastic” and “amazing” and well worth a listen or 500 by anyone who digs bitchin’ dance music. Porter perhaps first entered the mainstream consciousness through good […]

Rumors: Eliyahu back to Maccabi; Bjelica, Haislip to Baskonia

Baskonia fans had better brace themselves for a minor flurry of roster moves in coming days, as Lior Eliyahu may be returning to Maccabi Tel Aviv with the arrival of Marcus Haislip – plus Nemanja Bjelica’s coming aboard as well. Spanish media, via Israel-based Haaretz, this morning reckons that hometown boy Eliyahu is “expendable” with […]

Kobe Bryant: "European player development superior to that of U.S."

In lieu of preparing for the 2010 FIBA World Championship with Team USA (sigh), Kobe Bryant has been visiting China this week as part of a promotional tour the locals are calling “Kobe 24 Live.” (Read: Kobe’s in Asia hocking basketball shoes.) Putting in an appearance yesterday afternoon at 4.20pm in Changchun, Kobe signed a […]

Bo knows Italy: All-Euroleague second-teamer McCalebb gets with Montepaschi Siena

Montepaschi Siena announced the signing of Bo McCalebb, Partizan Belgrade’s starting point guard for their run to the Euroleague Final Four, Adriatic League title and Serbian Superleague championship, on Sunday. Quite a signing for MPS, then, who lost their long-time point guard Terrell McIntyre to Unicaja Malaga in this offseason. Official Euroleague writeup follows the […]

Caracter drama: Lakers’ pick draws interest from Italy, Israel, Olympiacos

While Los Angeles Lakers’ second-round draft pick Derrick Caracter impressed in NBA summer league play – even to rank third behind John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins in the NBA.com “Rookie Ladder” – the former UTEP Miner may yet have to wait one more year to play in the big league. No matter, though, as reportedly […]

The Greatest Basketball YouTube Ever (or, YouTube as a force for online democracy)

(Please excuse BallinEurope’s more personal tone today; trust me, i have as healthy a loathing for usage of the first-person in sports blogging as you no doubt do. On the other hand, it is called *You*Tube.) When i was coming of age in the Cold War 1980s, there wasn’t one basketball universe but rather two […]

Look out, Bundesliga (basketball): Here comes Bayern Munchen!

Rarely is the introduction of a new second-division basketball team greeted with such fanfare; of course, it’s not every day that a world-renowned football brand like FC Bayern joins the hoops world, either. Bayern München president Uli Hoeness unveiled the new second-division club’s uniforms and future plans amid much hoopla in southern Germany on Friday, […]
