Josh Childress update: Signs with Olympiacos!

July 23, 2008

According to Lithuanian basketball web site krepsinis.net (thanks to Zaidaw), Josh Childress has signed with Olympiacos. To make it less a rumor, but a more reliable note: See here (for a picture of Josh actually signing), here and here are also reports and “photo evidence” of his signature in Greece with Olympiakos.

If you are an expert in the European lifestyle – I repeat, lifestyle – and not a basketball expert, you can be almost certain that Panathinaikos needs a signing like that, too (BIG rivalry between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos). Too bad Panathiniakos needs a shooting forward. What was that guy’s name from Chicago again? The guy who was looking for a deal? Wasn’t that Luol Deng…?

Don’t be surprised, if that’s the next thing reported on US web sites…

Side note: To make your day even worse (as a US basketball fan) or even better (as a European basketball fan), Pat Riley would rather spend his time in EUROPE in France watching the Tour de France..

I love basketball. I grew up in the state of Indiana where basketball where is as important to one’s childhood as any other activity you can imagine. If basketball continues to move to Europe, I shall follow right behind it.

I read on ESPN that Childress was offered $36M by the Hawks. Any idea how many year that was for?

for the questions, it seems it’s 20 mill dollars for three years @ olympiakos, taxes payed by the team, house and car payed by the team..the 36million from the hawks was before taxes, so it’s actually about the same money for 2 years longer

I don’t think that Deng could be the next NBA caliber player to come, even with his English passport making him a nice asset.

……and enter here: Al HARRINGTON (Golden State) and Carl LANDRY (Houston) who are also restricted free agents.

Tsk. tsk. Such arrogance from the Europeans, yet as basketball fans they can’t even get positions right, Deng is small forward; Ben gordan is the shooting guard.

My bad, you said shooting forward. Deng signed with the Bulls.
