Preview – Ukraine vs Estonia

September 2, 2022

It’s the third day of EuroBasket 2022 and the second day of action in Group C in Milan. The second game on the docket sees Ukraine look to effectively punch their ticket to the next round while Estonia is hanging on for dear life.

Where and when?
Mediolanum Forum, Milan, Italy. Tip off is 17.00 CEST, 16.00 BST, 11.00 EST, 8.00 PST

Record to date
Estonia 0-1 (Lost to Italy 83-62)
Ukraine 1-0 (Beat Great Britain 90-61)

What the bookies say?
Ukraine are surprisingly heavy favourites at 1/5 while Estonia are good value at 19/5. Ukraine at -9.5 favourites on the point spread.

What we say
This one has tremendous potential to be an absolute nail biter. Ukraine have the name talent in Alex Len (Sacramento Kings) and Svi Mykhailiuk (recently waived by the Raptors) plus they displayed tremendously effective use of their double-big sets to wreck the British in the opener.

That being said, Estonia’s side is young and quick. It will struggle with the size but, in Kerr Kriisav (Arizona Wildcats), there’s a legitimate star in the making and this team plays fearlessly. It’s also worth taking into account that Estonia will have a clear crowd advantage, with 2,000 travelling fans in attendance.

The pick
Ukraine will win straight up but they’re going to make hard work of it for themselves so I expect Estonia to cover the spread.
