Preview – Croatia vs Great Britain

September 2, 2022

It’s the third day of EuroBasket 2022 and the second day of action in Group C in Milan. The action starts with Croatia and Great Britain both looking to get their first win of the campaign.

Where and when?
Mediolanum Forum, Milan, Italy. Tip off is 14.15 CEST 13.15 BST 08.15 EST 05,15 PST

Record to date
Croatia 0-1 (Lost to Greece 89-85)
Great Britain 0-1 (Lost to Ukraine 90-61)

What the bookies say?
Croatia are overwhelming favourites at 3/100 while Britain are 15/1 outsiders. The point spread has Croatia -13.5 favourites.

What we say
This is going to be ugly. Croatia started to find their chemistry in the middle of the third quarter against Greece and mounted an extraordinary comeback to nearly beat one of the pre-tournament favourites. This is a team that doesn’t play with depth, opting for a 7 man rotation, but when that rotation includes Bojan Bogdanovic (Utah Jazz), Dario Saric (Phoenix Suns), and Ivica Zubac (LA Clippers) then you are not exactly short of top tier talent.

Great Britain on the other hand looked awful against Ukraine. They kept it to just a 10 point deficit at the half due to Ukraine’s profligate shooting but once Ukraine got efficient, this one was a blowout. Here’s the scary part, Croatia look a lot better than Ukraine.

The pick
This is about as easy as they come. Croatia are going to win and they’re going to win big. I’m picking them with the points to cover easily.
