A few questions to the Finals MVP

September 27, 2007

… Cappie Pondexter. Cappie just started her own WNBA off-season blog which looks pretty cool to me – a lot of stuff to read. So if you want to know whats going on with the US National team read her blog.

Cappie has been the “main event” of the last WNBA season and topped it with the MVP title for herself as well as the WNBA trophy with the Phoenix Mercury.

We wanted to talk to Cappie since she was and will be playing in Europe again and knows “both worlds” pretty well. Here is the interview.

Cappie, first of all congratulation for winning the WNBA Championship 2007 and your stunning performance you had this year. Looking at your biography we can see that you were born in California, grew up in Chicago, went to college at Rutgers, NJ, got drafted by the Phoenix Mercury and that you also play in Europe. What would you consider your home?

Thanks so much..truly it is has been a great year for me and the Phoenix Mercury. Well, I do play all over the universe but my home right now will have to be in phx…However, I still love Chicago, New York & New Jersey…

Since you play at the top level in the States as well as overseas – where do you think is the main difference between women’s basketball in the US and Europe?

There isn’t a huge difference. Wnba and fiba europe are two competitive women leagues… the competition for both are the same, mainly bc u have the same women playing against each other.. just on different teams with different players.

We read about your love for Michael Jordan shoes. Is it the person behind the shoes or actually the design of the shoes?

Oh I definitely love mj shoes… it started as a young kid watching Jordan play for Chicago…everyone wanted to be like mike and for me being that was wearing his sneakers….from that point on I had to have every shoe he designed and sold….

Cappie will head over to Turkey to play for the Turkish championship as well as the Euroleague title as soon as she is done with the National Team in Chile.
