Saturday night live: Charity pop concert to run during Euroleague Final Four

April 22, 2011

“Going global takes on special meaning at the upcoming Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four 2011,” reads the PR material and hoo boy do they mean it. Just in case you’re in Barcelona for the tournament and just have a hankering for Spanish pop music, be sure to check out the “Euroleague for Africa 40 Pop Concert” to be held at the Palau St. Jordi on Saturday night.

In the meantime, check out some Euroleague stars trying to hype up the gig a bit in a new promotional spot.

All proceeds will go to UNICEF and while the prospect of all 7,000 seats being filled is well imaginable, BiE has to wonder about the focus-group crossover between Euroleague basketball, Turkish Airlines and the presumably pre-teen to young teenaged audience.

Seriously, check out a representative act that’ll be playing the show.

BiE wonders whether he’ll be attending the show as a media event … or maybe just go to the pub that night instead.

Official press release follows.

(Euroleague.net) – Going global takes on special meaning at the upcoming Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four 2011 Barcelona with the announcement of a new, star-studded charity concert to benefit UNICEF’s educational efforts in Africa!

Euroleague Basketball, Turkish Airlines and Los 40 Principales radio are joining forces to put great music to work for a worthy cause, the students across Africa whom UNICEF is lifting up every day with broad-based educational assistance.

Some of the brightest lights of Spain’s dynamic music scene will entertain up to 7,000 lucky fans on Saturday night of Final Four weekend, with all the profits from ticket sales going directly to UNICEF.

In sub-Saharan Africa, one out of every three children does not have access to primary education, putting their futures at risk. UNICEF’s Schools for Africa initiative builds full-service educational facilities for children where they have access to nourishing meals, potable water and health services for a secure and protected environment in which they can enjoy learning.

The Euroleague for Africa 40 Pop Concert, presented by Turkish Airlines, will feature more than a dozen of Spain’s top young musical artists, including El Pescao, Carlos Jean, Robert Ramirez, Pablo Alboran, Macaco, Eliza Doolitle, Pol.314, Edurne, The Monomes, Melocos and more!

The concert will take place at the Olympic Esplanade in Barcelona, right next door to Palau Sant Jordi, where the best Turkish Airlines Euroleague teams will battle on Friday and Sunday to become this season’s continental champion.

The Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four 2011 Barcelona runs from Friday, May 6 to Sunday, May 8. The Euroleague for Africa 40 Pop Concert, presented by Turkish Airlines, will be held on Saturday night, May 7.

Tickets for the Euroleague for Africa 40 Pop Concert, presented by Turkish Airlines, may be purchased through Ticketmaster, Entradas.com and the Euroleague ticket service.

The games aren’t the only thing that fans can look forward to in the Final Four weekend, although the Final Four games are the highlight. For those who are musically inclined, you may also check out the concert event to enjoy your time while taking a break from the games and other activities!
